I'm a brand new, wet behind the ears member so apologies if this is not the right place to post this query. Here goes anyway.
The lug that retains the head light bulb sprig clip has broken on my bike. When I enquired at my local friendly BMW dealer he put on his highway robbers mask and said there was no other fix than to buy a replacement headlight. Has anyone got any ideas suggestions as to a more reasonable solution to this problem?

This has happened on 2 bikes and I bodged it by cutting a piece of foam about 20 mm thick and put it in the plastic cover that goes on the back of the headlight so that when you refit this cover it holds the bulb in place . I know it's a bodge but lasted about 2 years on last bike and 1 year so far on the current one without any problems and the cost was zero

Hi Chaps, many thanks for the replies, and many thanks to B&Q. for supplying the screw caps. The fix involving plastic caps has sorted the problem.
Now to see how long it lasts. Hopefully it wont get hot enough in there to melt the cap.

If in doubt about screw head being big enough you could put a washer under screw head to fully cover the bulb retaining spring wire. Or even drill the cap from the original carpenter's screw cover.

Many thanks for this fix! Did it in a couple of minutes after the heartache of realising it had snapped during a bulb change this afternoon. I used a number plater screw washer which is essentially the same thing. I also added the suggested washer and it works perfectly. I can't see why this fix won't out last the bike :augie

With so many having problems, it sounds like replacing that screw is a job to do BEFORE it goes wrong.

Something else for my To Do list.

I suspect it is one of those inevitable fixes. My bike is a cherished 2010 but it blows a head light bulb at least once per year so that is at least 6bulb changes. The plastic mount is made of a brittle stuff and gets hot and cold all the time when the H7 builds are on so even though I was aware of this weakness and was very careful when changing the bulb.......it broke. Fortunately I had previously read about this fix and knew where to look straight away. I know it has been said before but the annual subs on this forum pays for its self :beerjug:
