been waiting for a month for BMW to make some headlight units for the F800GS. can't ride my bike because of it. i think that's some pretty crap service.

They do pop up on eBay occassionally. Surely BMW UK can find one somewhere. Perhaps nick one off a press bike. After all, there can't be too many on test this time of year. Or even your local dealer?

Just read your location. If you are in Russia, then not much of the above applies.

If all you care about is riding, then try and find another bike that uses the same bulbs (H7 is it?), and mount that headlight temporarily. Shouldn't matter much what headlight it is as long as the bulbs are the same.

However, "months" does sound very long for BMW, you could try contacting a dealer in a country closer to Germany or in Germany to see whether they can get hold of a headlight. If they can get hold of one, then surely your own dealer should be able too.

happened in a collision with a dog in Mongolia.
How did you break yours?

@the Joker, they've none in Germany either! there are literally no headlights for a UK spec bike anywhere in the world apparently!!! they are going to make another batch...sometime. useless.

What a pain! Especially as I believe that this headlight is used on several other bikes too. Best of luck! If I spot one somewhere, I'll post here.

I think there is EU law that says manufactures and importers must provide parts for 10 years JJH

There is but BMW haven't discontinued the headlamp, they are out of stock and awaiting re-supply from whomever manufactures them on their behalf, unfortunately. :(

Sorry to read about your woes.

Depending on how desperate you are to get riding again/how long it will be before you return to the UK, have you considered getting a "rest of world" spec headlight (ie dips to right) as a temporary measure and sourcing a UK headlight when you get home? Not the cheapest option, I grant you, but maybe a go-er?

Try the breakers like Motor Works etc for a 2nd hand unit or tape some clear plastic over the front to keep the weather out.

You really couldn't make that up!
All of a sudden I am looking at headlight protectors! .. and I dont like them very much either.

short term / cheap option for protection is buy a sheet of makrolon (not perspex it will shatter) from ebay appx £2.50
cut to shape , dremel for a nice edge if you are keen and stick on with sticky foam pieces butted back to back to give you a soft sticky both sides bud of appx 4mm

total cost less than £3 and it looks ok and doesnt glare.

Run this on my F650 twin all summer and only had to replace buds on small light once following really good washing one weekend.

I did it because lad I bought the bike off showed me his cracked headlight and the £150 second hand one he had to fit to sell

Thanks Steve. Will take a look at it. I'm exploring other possibilities as I might change the fairing too, but the point is, BMW are rubbish.

Malcolm, BMW dealers now have in stock. I got one on sat am: £154 plus VAT.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I have also been looking for a headlamp for ages and will be picking up at the weekend. I'll make sure I get a headlamp guard this time!
