I'm after some in the ear headphones for running and cycling in.The original Ipod phones hurt my lugs and the senheiser CX300's I have are great when you're stationary but seem to transmit a lot of noise down the cable when moving. Is there a similar product that is quieter on the move, if you know what I mean? Any recommendations:)

Best headphones of this type I have are Bang& Olufsen. They are about £90 a pair:eek: but are really very good.

They have a bit that fits inside your ear and then a loop that fits around the back of your ear in the same way as 1960's National Health specs do.

They are really good for running etc in, I wore them last year doing Great North (and all my training) and didn't/don't have a problem.

Apart from nosebleed of a price, the other problem is that they won't comfortably fit inside my helmet so using MP3 player on the bike is not really do-able.

'Phones are compatible with IPod...

Headphones...

I've just bought a set of Bose Tri-Port IE headphones which give absolutley amazing sound quality. Excellent bass tones and as good as many other over ear cans I've used. They fit well under my Tour X as well. Not cheap at £69 but worth it IMO. I'm also going to invest in a set of custom plugs from ultimate Ear that can be used in tandem with the Bose Tri-Ports for a tighter fit when running and even better sound quality.

uep 90 Bose £75.00 + £2.00 p&p
Designed specifically for Bose in ear speakers, we house this generic design, and incorporate it into a custom plug, with squidgy tips for added comfort and an enhancement of the detail of the sound. :thumb

£90:eek::yikes:D Kinda more than I was hoping to pay but if they work well........
I'll have a butchers at them. Ta very much:thumb2

.....on a more realistic note (pun intended :augie) how about these....

Creative EP 630 earbuds....yours for the princely sum of £6 from Amazon.

I've had a pair for a couple of years and they are bloody good - they fit in the ear, very good sound quality and they act as earplugs when you turn the i-pod off.

Tip: DON'T put them in the washing machine with your i-pod....I wonder how I know this..:blast

i got a set of JVC "earbuds" for about 15 quid from Curry's

they act as earplugs if your battery runs out

nice and comfy with three different size buds to fit different lugs and good sound quality too

i put them in, then put a neck tube up over my ears - it helps put your crash helmet on without disturbing the earphones too much

Bose in-ear. Unbeatable IMO. great sound and so comfortable I go to sleep with them in every night.

The CX300 are an in ear, 'sealed back' design - so as you have discovered any thing touching the cable or the ear buds themselves will result in sound being transmitted to your ears, this includes your own sounds as well such as coughing, clearing your throat, talking to yourself and singing along to the music!

You need an 'open back' design of earphone. There are loads out there - and you don't have to spend a fortune.

Of course, if you are trying to listen to music in your helmet whilst riding along there will always be a compromise because an open back design will let background noise in resulting in you having to turn up the volume.

My opinion is that a motorcycle helmet is not a good place to listen to music.

Or you could get yourself a Honda Goldring...........just don't get caught listening to "brown girl in the ring......." as some monkey was listening to as he pulled up at the lights next to me the other day:augie

If you care about your hearing you should get some decent 'in ear' jobbies -
Shure SCL range/E2-C's or the like. The really cheap one's are crap - they really suffer from the 'pickup' you've already noticed.

Or get some custom made ones from someone like Ultimate Ear, or your local Audiology department.

If you want 'proper' headphones then 'Bose QuietComfort 2's' are the way to go :)

Thanks for all the info guy's:thumb2
I'm not bothered about using them inside a helmet, just for running and cycling really. Sounds like open back is what I need then. Bose's seem to be getting lots of good feedback so I might wait till next month and try some, the pennies are a bit tight at the mo:P I have consided ultimate ear/green leopard etc but it's the rigmorall of getting to an audiologist thats put me off so far, can't find one anywhere near me:( I would like to go down that route at some point because as well as monitors I'd like some shooting plugs.

If you're using them for multiple activities then get custom ones made. The various companies go to the bike shows - so there's bound to be one 'up north' soon. Or call them and see if they're doing a road show at a local bike club.
