Left hand side heated grip not working...
Right hand side perfect...

Obviously something wrong with the grip himself. Can be repaired or need to be replaced?

Oh, BTW, on a GS of course...

Hi Yosi, this happened on mine last year. First it stopped working and then, after a month, it started working intermitantly. Had it replaced! CW's didn't have an answer as to why it wasn't working.

Hi Yosi, same thing happened on my GS last year, the theory put forward by the mechanics at the time was that as you pull the bike onto it's stand, you are putting undue pressure onto the left grip, thus damaging the heating element.

Since having it replaced, whenever I pull it onto the stand, I pull the clutch lever in and then pull onto the stand. This stops you gripping the left hand side too tightly, therefore preserving your heating element.

Yosi,

Stefan just fixed his as the wire that is wounded around the grip snapped. BMW won't fix it as it ain't worth the hassle. He had to solder the wire ad working fine again now. I will ask him to mail me the pics.

Many thanks to all for the input...

Maverick, looking forward to see Stephan's solution...

A new grip from BMW is about 60 quid's which I'm not willing to part with without a repair try...

Just spoke to Stefan he said for £59 he will fix it for you Yosi :D
He will email the pics tomorrow of how and where it broke but if you have a little gas soldering iron should be able to fix it on the bike, if you don't own one of these little things email me I have one :thumb

Here we go...

Yosi,

Two options

1. Take the heated grip off completely
2. Solder it on the bike if it is the fault.

If you want to take the grip off completely you will need to locate this connector block where the heated grip wires will lead you to.

Becuase the wire will need to be pulled through the handlebars which is the easy part as getting the feckers back again through the small hole where the wires come out ain't easy.

You then need to take a precision screwdriver or small nail and from the front bend the little "jaws" of the connectors flat so you can pull the two wires out of the block without needing to cut them off.

With some patience you will sit with two wire connectors in your hand which you can then later push back into the connector block once finished.

If you going the route of soldering the wire on the bike you need to take the handlebar weights off and then slowly roll the grip back to expose the tape around the wire.

You should find something like this..

Stefan did the soldering and put everthing back together and no problems so far as he uses his bike everday. Shout if you need some help or if you going to Eyensford tomorrow night I can bring the gas soldering iron for you.

Hope it is of help :thumb
