Heated grips.. I don't have them so what to do?

silk inners ordered for now... Just been looking at my 'summer' gloves... thay do have vents in each finger so that may be part of the problem LOL... see what silk does ;)

When I was riding home from work on Friday the courier next to me at the lights had a pair of Jiffy bags with holes through them shoved into his bars. Makes Oxford grips look expensive... :D

For some reason, my bike was specified without heated grips... first owner had lots of problems with them on his last bike so didn't bother..
but ive just been out for 3 hours at 9 deg... and with summer gloves on, my hands are cold (prefer the thiness of summer gloves)

so, what to do?
I can buy the BMW bits from Motowerks for about £200 and have Mr BMW man turn them on in my ECU... nice neat fix, but they do have issues or
I can buy Oxford Adventure prips for £40 new, and fit them... they do work well, but don't look quite as neat?... but do they look bad??

Any thoughts on the way to go :)

I fit Oxford HG to all bikes I buy which don't have them. The control bracket is shit but I've always found a way of making it work.

its an option if these don't work :)

remember my mate got some Kangroo skin ones a few years ago.. said they were great?... mind you.. ones without vents in I'm sure will be warmer :blast

You might laugh mate but I always have 2 pairs in the topcase, one in case gloves start leaking, and other if need to work on the bike, handy and cheap they are, the skinny latex ones rip all the time, Marigold is gold............:jes

does it feel like a big spongy thing like said before?.. the reson I use thin gloves is I like to get feedback from the front... another poster on here said they were big and numb?... just don't want to find out after I've cut the OE ones off?...

Just get some symtec heater foils under the standard grips, rugged roads sell them.
I’d take them over oxford products,Shiite any day of the week.

Can you get the OE ones off without cutting / spliting them???/

You may remove the grips by undoing one screw. It is shown here: Picture of grips

The left switchgear is attached to the grip and they both come off, so you have to unplug the left switchgear first.

I do however expect the efficiency of a heathing-foil attached to the handlebare to be poor. You will probably also run into problem refitting the grip with the foil attached.

Personally I tend to support the idea of the OEM solution, where you replace the grips, perhaps you may have to change the cover for the r/h switchgear, and do an update in software.
If the grips don't heath enough it must be a software issue. The grips resistance is rated 5.5 Ohm = 35W at 14V (this is too much heath, so the grips are cycled. Thus, if not warm enough it's a case of software update).
