Heated grips problem

Hello All,

My right hand heated grip has stopped working. The left still works fine. So i'm thinking this rules out fuse and switch problems. Any clues from anybody before I go looking for bare wires? Do these things have an effective life like a lightbulb where the resistor burns out eventually?

I've done a search but there doesn't seem to be any posts with this problem.

Hi Ive had this, basicaly if its a bmw grip there is one wire that runs around a plastic tube around your grip and the rubber one is glued on top of it.

Check the continuity of the wire first to make sure there is a break, to do this follow the wire and it plugs into a connector block on the loom, twin connecter wire out, wire back un plug it and check here, then starting at the thumb end of the grip start peeling/rolling the rubber grip back you might have to use a knife (like skinning an animal) as you expose the wire wrapped around the grip you should be able to see the break. unwrap the wire one turn from the grip cut to length and solder back together. hope this helps

Heated grips

Cut the grip off with a pair of sidecutting pliars, this way you will not damage the heating wire which is very possible using a knife.

If your carefull you dont cut the grip you roll it back from the thumb end using the knife to seperate the rubber grip from the plastic with the wire on, then you can roll it back and re glue it, like skinning !

Hmm...skinning an animal! Never done that but seen it in films...tried it anyway and it worked. Soldered the broken wire back to his mate and glued it back together. Works a treat.
