heated grips r1200gs lc

A simple explanation is that Heat is generated by current flow. The amount of current flow is in relation to resistance.

The new grips have different resistance hence more heat.

If the grips draw to much current the canbus will shut down.

All will be good

They could well be controlled by PWM. As others have changed them without any can bus shut downs then it doesn't seem that the newer grips trigger will can bus over current detection. For BMW to suggest the bike may catch fire implies that either the wires are too small to handle the current and overheat or maybe the grips themselves are two hot for the handlebars! Its unlikely to be too small wires as the can bus current limit should have been designed to meet the wire size.

Its the bars thats the problem.. being solid Ali its a huge heat sink for the grip especialy at speed... put the early ones on tube bars they would be fine I'm sure.. found this with the ones I fitted (but still better than BM's offering for this year ;) )

Fitted and no problems for future reference just forgot I had this thread and not answered

good news.. you forgot a thread from January :D I can forget one I put up yesterday LOL

I now have a 2017 bike with better heated grips on.. like yours... but they are still not as good as the Oxfords....
