I have just started using the heated grips on my new 1150GS only to find that on level two that the throttle becomes very tight and a real pressure to twist, obviously some expansion is taking place with the heat?
Has anyone else experianced this? is this normal? as its a real pain. Cold hands no crash ! warm hands =?

Mine did that and I found it annoying at first. Whether I got used to it or it improved with age I'm not sure. I was going to give a squirt of WD40 to the inside of the grip but didn't in the end, though I' sure it would improve it.

Grip

I posted same problem a couple of weeks ago........solution very simple. Took off end caps and fitted small washer inside, problem sorted and warm hands without cruise control !

Thanks Steve, I have got the hand protectors fitted & was not sure if this was a factor, anyhow if I take these off, slide off the grip? place the washer at which end? towards the brake lever housing or the end of the bars? and finally can BMW provide such a thing if its common to save me a day of looking for the right size washer?

NO NEED to touch the rubber grips. The metal end cap is the one you need to drop a washer down.I found a couple of washers that dropped down the hole and fitted perfectly. You only need to have a very thin washer......sorry not sure of diameter. But all I did was drop the washer inside the end cap then screw it back on.
Hope this makes sense !!!

Thanks alot Steve, I will give it a go.
This is the first time I have used the forum and I must say I'm very impressed !!!:D :D :D

Glad to see I am not the only one with this problem, ..... too embarassed to post the question incase someone thinks I haven't been riding my bike all winter......oops:eek:

I was most confused as I asked this question this afternoon in a thread and this one is here and no post from me... then I see the uvverone..... I'll try WD, then the faff with the washer and that old malarky....

Don't even need the washers, just slacken the twistgrip assembly off & push it a mm or so further onto the bar, that was what Steve at Rainbow in Sheffield (whoops, Rotherham now ) told me to do & sorted the problem in an instant. That was on my 1100, my 1150's never suffered from the problem but assume it will work on them as well. Give it a go.
