Finally got around to replacing the grip rubbers on my 1988 R100GS. Lo and behold, after slicing off the existing rubbers I have found what looks like a heating element wrapped around a plastic core with wires disappearing into the hollow ends of the handlebars on both sides. I don't find a switch to turn off/on heat. Any ideas? This is a straight GS "Bumblebee" and not a PD. Where would a switch be and what would it take to actually make the grips work (in a somewhat factory-like manner). Thanks in advance.

Ok different...

Follow that wire? Does it come out of the centre of the bars? Maybe bars are changed from another- Hence no wire on that Bike? Follow that wire. I'd say aftermarket as most Bms I have worked on had Holes for the Heated Grips cable and not into the end of the Bars? Should be a Risistor in the line then a Switch then a Fuse??
Hey I could be wrong. But I have never seen the wire in the end of the Bar?
I think Bumble Bee had a Rocker switches in centre of the Bars? Do they Rock as in Switch? The Print could be gone? Lots to ponder over?
I'd disconnect the Positive on the Battery before I'd start Pulling and Tooling? BIGJim. Tasmania. :beerjug:
