Heavy Metal around Mongolia and Central Asia

A little tip which improves the quality of reading this thread.

In user CP at the top left of your screen go to 'edit options' and change the 'skin' to UKADVRider.

It gives a black background which is a much better frame for photos than the traditional yellow

And you tell us know? I'll have to read the whole thread again then. But I wonder if it will get any better :thumb

Tim, I don't think you've mentioned it yet, but I bet the night sky will have been fantastic to behold out there with the clear atmosphere and no light pollution....

Did you manage to get any shots....?

Brilliant write up......:thumb2

Hello Tim. I just found out about UKGSer.com this evening through a link on BMW MOA web site forum. Fantastic story and wonderful pictures. I look forward to hearing more of your trip.

I just purchased my new GSA in May of this year and have put a bit over 10,000 miles on it so far. I am looking forward to putting many more on it and it is stories such as yours that have inspired me to buy the GSA and take it on such trips.

Thanks again.

Tim - a truly fantastic trip and a very engaging and honest account - thank you for sharing. The light in your photos has a pure quality which we just don't see here in our crowded isle - it does indeed make for a magic landscape.

Yes the light was perfect but didn't have much success with night sky shots.

When we first entered Mongolia the light was hazy which was disappointing, we were told there was a huge forest fire in Siberia and the wind was blowing from the north.

Thanks for all your comments and Pm's so far, the only reason I deleted a few earlier was to keep some continuity going for the reader, but they were all very much appreciated.:thumb
As you can imagine, this report has also been well recieved on ADVrider and I was astonished at the feedback there also through PM's and posts.
If these photos and text fire the imagination then they'll have done their job.

Laying down the words and photos has been an opportunity for me to relive some of the moments, I felt exhausted and a weight from my shoulders lifted as that last photo went down.

Right, let's head for the Pamir Highway....are you coming?:beerjug:

Hi Tim
Fantastic report I read Marco Polo's Travels as a kid and was always fasinated by it and your account certainly held my attention just as his did. The photos are brilliant also. It was great to meet you in Tipp and apologies again for nearly broadsiding you on my terribly badly judged bend at the end of the ride.
THanks for all the effort you put into the report
Geraldine

Just for those that ask about the camera used. Some of the photos were taken on a Canon G9. :beerjug:
