There was a thread a lttle while back that related the problem to heated grips.
Could that be a possibility?

Throttle

Happens every so often on my 1100 but it's due to the throttle grip sliding down ' pul it back up and it's cured.

oi blu take the cruise controll off, yer knob!!!:D :D

Could also be the throttle wire splitter box needs lubricating/replacing

:moped:

Yeah, mine went heavy at about 14000. Creeps up on you un-noticed until a long trip when it cripples your right wrist (....cue more remarks...). Lubricated it with a cable-oiler thingy which attaches to an aerosol can. If you use a spray with Teflon in it (e.g. GT85 spray or LepLube), it makes a huge difference and seems to last.

good advice, ut make sure its teflon otherwise the lube makes things better for a short while, then the cables need to be replaced

cable

Oiling the throttle cable alone is not much good, what about the other two cables?and the pully wheel underneath the battery carrier are those the problem? it could be them making it stiff. If it is then make sure you know how to set up the throttle bodies and cables before you attempt this. You cannot remove the pully wheel assembly without taking your fast idle cable from the left handlebar and left hand throttle cable from the body, then you can slide the whole thing out from underneath the battery carrier by holding a little metal locking tab down it will only slide out to the right side because the left body cable and fast idle cable are fed though a slot in the bottom of the battery box.You can then inspect and oil/replace cables,a bit of time consuming job.Andy

Mine was the same until today. Had it rectified under warranty. The job sheet states - "Replace bowden-cable divider with cables". Not sure what that means but it seems to have done the trick. At least it I thought it had til the bloody thing came to a grinding halt on the way home from the workshop and I had to call recovery to take me home.

Some quiet words in some ears tommorrow, then.

And the name of the Dealer on the job sheet is ......

Yes, I thought someone might bring that up, and rightly so. I won't divulge until I've given them an ear bashing and ascertained their reaction as there was also another serious cock up on the job (like oil pissing out of one fork seal after they replaced the fork brace. And I mean pissing. It was just about to dribble onto the brake caliper when I noticed).

I'm not a happy bunny at the moment.

Oiled my throttle cable with a cable oiler - grease. Seems to have cocked the job up and now have a very sluggish return action. Notice someone mentioned using teflon based lube. Have not disturbed cable so am I right in assuming grease has reacted badly with cable?

PS Only took handlebar swith assembly apart to clean brake switch which was and is still bloody sticking!

Thanks for oyur time

Prolly gummed it up, mate!! Try a can full of teflon spray to blow it out - wait until the stuff comes out of the cable ends; takes quite a while!

Thanks for that but being a bit of an old fart have only ever used grease and oiler, are these teflon cans widley available and do they come with their own adaptor to fit on the end of the cable?

Thanks
