Heidenau K60 Scout

Try Oponeo. Mine were delivered in 5 days with great comms from them saying where they were up to in the process, plus Oponeo were also the cheapest, although I didn't really look too hard as I was more than happy with their price.

Sent from my iPhone with a smile :)

Thanks mate
I was looking there just a minute ago :-)

I do at almost 100% on tarmac but a lot of that is on single track lanes with a big slippery gravel bands down the middle often very slippery on the bike riding line. I came close to fitting K60 Scouts but I also do a lot of motorways so they were a gamble.

In the end, I chose Conti TKC-70. Its a tarmac oriented off road tyre with aggressive chevron tread blocks. I've not yet tried them on mud but on gravel over tarmac (which we have a lot of in Devon lanes) they are excellent. The previous road treads were downright nasty as I could never tell which end was about to break loose and slide. The TKC-70s just don't slide on gravel and they grip well on wet or dry tarmac. On mud, they are likely to be reasonable but wont be up there with K60 Scouts. On the other hand, the TKC-70 is great on motorways so for me a good all round balance.

If you don't need the high speed rating they are IMO a lot better than Tourance style tyres of any brand (I've used Bridgestone Battlewings, Maxxis Detour and Metzler Tourance.

They wear quickly to start then just keep on going for ages and ages. Make sure your tyre pressures are right i.e 33 front and 36 back:thumb

I just changed my rear at 9500 miles and I guess there would have been 2 k left if I wanted them to last that long and believe me, that tyre was hammered:)
Would you still recommend them pressures for tossers two up with full camping gear or stick just below recommended psi, just priced some up and there looking Really favourable cheers gav

What does the B stand for ie 15 70 B17 as mine currently are R17
I'm getting front and back for £135 that seems way to cheap. Is that what you guys have paid?

The scout is a bloody good road tyre and I used them on the Alaska trips this year. The roads were everything from fast tarmac, brilliant twisties to hard packed gravel and slippery mud. The Scouts handled everything brilliantly and each trip was 8400 miles.

Out of 20 bikes, I think 17 used them and everyone liked them. In all that time we had just 2 punctures which is unbelievable.
That's really good to know. I was recommended them by Kevin Sanders for our China trip - and, hence, have a new pair that I was due to fit in Astrakan still waiting with the bike for me to collect/fit in Moscow for a (slightly circuitous) ride home.

They really are a great tyre and on recent trips, one or two people have run them at 40 rear and 37 front with no problems when 2 up. I'd be inclined to try those pressures.

I'm going to Australia via Europe,"the Stans" China, SE Asia. There will be quite a bit off-road via the Pamir highway and other areas in the Stans. Therefore there will he a need for something a bit more "knobbly/aggressive" than ordinary road/ semi-road oriented tyres, and Heidenau were a consideration

They will need to last approx 8000miles before I am in a position too change to a more road type tyre in northern China.

Sorry I missed this post.
K60 Scouts from Tyre Leader should be ideal. Assuming no mishaps, they will almost certainly will last for 8000 miles.

I only went for the TKC-70 because I'm not doing as much off road and need to cope with loose gravel. They are quite grippy so I may be lucky to see 5000 from the back tyre. I would not use them on a run like above.

I'm taking PR4's off in favour of TKC-70, do you think I'll be giving up much dry road(fast) grip??

The -70s initially felt really knife edge to ride, but with 34/40 tyre pressures they now feel fine. Ive not yet found the grip limit and my right boot is getting road rubbed more than it ever used to.

Dry grip feels better than ordinary Tourance type tyres. Actual Tourance feel slow handling in comparison.
Wet grip has not given me any cause for concern. But its rained only once since I fitted them.
Gravel over tarmac on narrow lanes (which has always been interesting/scary to ride over) has almost no effect on the -70s. I've (deliberately) had the traction control stutter the engine with no feeling the back end was about to break away.
Overbanding and road grooves have no effect on handling that I can feel. However, time will tell; they are still brand new.
Noise - They sing on tarmac but its not annoying.
Rear chicken strip is impressive ;)

The PR4's are awesome for Sunday morning blasts but I'm doing 9 days next month in Germany/Switz/France and I wanted something to cover all eventualities. TKC's getting fitted on Tuesday with a service.
Thanks for the feedback.
