Great to see all the ***p about the 'Arrow'.................... Me, I'll just keep fitting 'em the same way that the directional arrow says (a la tarka) and continue to enjoy these great tyres. Not so much tyre noise on BeeBee(G/S) as there is on the 1200 which sounds like a tank when your moving, brilliant rumble...............TOP TYRES

I've looked at all the JCBs around me (lots of roadworks) and they are all the same as Marcus' tyres - the 'wrong' way with blocks pointing down.

Thoughts on tread pattern effects.

Apply the front brake on a dirt surface with the tread pattern as shown in the first phot .. What happens? The loose dirt will be gathered in towards the centre of the tyre .. promoting slippage!!!!! What you want is the pattern to direct the loose dirt AWAY from the tyre so you get grip.

On the rear tyre you want grip when you have power applied to the wheel. Not that a bicycle rear tyre for loose surface would try to gather the dirt to the centre .. so as not to dig a trench .. limited horse (person) power ...

4WD or 2WD?

4WD will have all 4 like Marcus. 2WD will have the front tyres the other way around - or more likely the non-chevron type.

Dunno. But all the JCBs (with a big rear and little front wheel), tippers, diggers etc, have the tyres the same way round - the same as Marcus' picture. I'm confused.

Just fit the fugging things in accordance with the manufacturer`s directional arrow FFS.

What are these tyres anyway, never heard of them, are they better and cheaper than TK's and where do you get them.

Rear wheel = power ( think tractor tread )

front wheel = braking

therefore they should be fitted mirror image - top photo is wrong !!

( PS new JCB is 4 wheel drive )

"wrong way round" front K60

A bit less noise, but the noise is still there on very smooth tar. Seem to be a very bit more stable on loose gravel braking.

Other than that, hardly any difference compared to powered-wheel setup.

What sizes are you running for Heidenau K60 Tyres ? Heidenau reckon they don't do the BMW book sizes.

My bike is a 1150GSA.

It seems odd that your dealer wasn't aware that front and rear tyres fit in different directions..!!

as i understand it, orientation of tyres on bikes is less to do with tread pattern than the bias of any belting inside. hence the opposing direction arrows on some tyres that are front or rear fitment.

are these tyres radials or crossply? above info may be more relevant to crossply

Hopefully to clear up the confusion,the Heidenau in the size that fits the front wheel of Matkat's 1200....and presumably Margus`s and MadMountainMan`s Oilheads...has its sidewall directional arrow/tread pattern the other way round compared to the 21" ones on the Airheads.



It`s quite simple really....just fit them the way the manufacturer`s arrow says.


The only time tyres are fitted in opposition to this arrow is if fitting a rear tyre on the front,such as in a custom bike with a wide front wheel .

In case people are still deliberating I'm also fitting my new front in reversal (mirror image). The wear on the previous front was irregular.
