Im collecting a 1200GS at the weekend and for reasons i wont go into i need to bring it back in a van ! can anyone tell me the height of the bike at its tallest point ? (the screen i guess)

Can't tell you height but I delivered one recently and it fitted into Peugeot Boxer no problem. I did lower the screen.

I picked mine up in a vw transporter, it fitted corner to corner, but I needed to remove the screen and mirrors.

Take a set of torx keys as the two bottom screen screws have these and a 10mm or 8mm combi spanner for the mirrors, it went it at that

Come on. Don't tease us. Why do you need to put it in a van ? :augie

Good advice on the torx keys - always useful. The screen comes off complete with top brace so you only need to take out the bottom 2 screws.

On the side stand the screen or RHS mirror is 1600mm from floor
Without both, the RHS handlebar guard is 1420mm from floor.

I believe its safest to strap it down on the side stand because it gives a wider foot print. As a minimum use one ratchet strap to keep it pulled forwards onto stand and another strap on the opposite side. You may also choose to strap the wheels so they cant slide sideways.

Thanks !

Thanks for all the replies, i have use of a low top transit with an up and over door, so not entirely sure it will go, if not then my open flatbed with tail lift will have to be used, just didnt fancy lifting it on the tail lift to be honest as i know it wont fit on from side to side so it will be lifting at an angle..and the reason for the van...well purely financial to be honest..free work van and works diesel and a 300 mile round trip swung it ! tight...i know !

Do you think it's a "It Rubs the lotion on it's skin" steal it and keep it in a PIT kind of thing?

It's a motorcycle it's not meant to be transported it's meant to be ridden, and no EVERYONE who reads this is going to be paranoid thinking your about to nick thier bike.

Nothing new here.

Anyone who moves bikes for a living will know what vehicles are best for the job. The dodgy ones won't even bother with straps.

Lift it in. Slam door. Gone.

Sorted.

Relevant post Bendy. Not.

Yep i agree...6k for a bike to be thrown in the back of a van..its not going to happen in reality ! anyway you will all be pleased to know that i picked the bike up in the van, dropped the screen down and it went in ok, oh and i bought it from a dealer and didnt knick it !:augie
