I bought a new 1250GS Ultimate at the end of January and thought I could cope with the standard ride height suspension. I fitted a factory lower seat and also the lowering blocks for the front mount which made it a lot better and solo with no weight on the bike I set the suspension to dynamic height and damping and mostly it is fine once on the move. However I did my first ride 2 up a couple of weekends ago and found myself really struggling when coming to a halt and getting my feet off the pegs and down in time at junctions and in traffic. And last weekend was riding in heavy stop start trasffic and it was a real pain. I have a knackered hip and back and am struggling with the height of it. To that end I now want to investigate getting the suspension converted to the lower ride height set up. Has anyone else done this and what is involved and likely costs? Is there a recommended company that can modify the suspension units . Whilst at it, I would get the springs replaced to suit my weight.
Whilst I am here, the bike is shod with Anakee Adventure tyres. I am not happy with them as they have slipped away from me on gentle cornering on the front and rear on seperate occasions on dry roads, for no apparent reason,? End result is I have lost confidence in them, plus they are very noisy. Tyre pressures are correct, so I don't really understand why this is happening? Other riders seem happy with them, so I amwondering whether I have a duff set? The other thing that I am finding odd on this, is the unstableness when at low speeds or stationary. I had a 1150GSA for 20 years and never experienced this on that bike, could the tyres be the cause of this? The bike has clocked up 600 miles and is going in for its first service in a couple of weeks, so I am going to ask them to roadtest the bike before they do anything and give an opinion. Considering fitting some Dunlop Mutants on instead, as I am not using it off road, so might as well have some road focussed tyres instead.

I've had Avon Trailriders, and Metzeler Tourances ( the original ones) on my 1200gs LC ,

All very confidence inspiring :)

Lowering

Shocks Front & Rear

Side and centre stands lowered too

On my R1250GS, I too found it a little too high to flat foot - I'm 5'10 and was forever finding myself on the balls of my feet, which was ok-ish at lights but moving the bike around whilst sitting on it was difficult. I tried the lowering bungs on the front of the seat, but in all honesty they did little for me, except push me further into the tank, so I reverted to the OEM bungs.
I made the following mods and can now flat foot and have total confidence in my machine - I did think about changing the suspension to a "low" version, but no need.
- Wunderlich Low seat
- Suspension set to auto (dynamic seems to raise it?)
- Daytona M-Star boots

Yes was going to say, suspension Needs to be set manually to low, and soft,
