Simple Question to the brethren.

I am contemplating replacing my 8 year old brake lines with shiney new HEL ones.

I have a 2003 Bike with the servo removed. The kit on the site would probably have to be the one for a 2001 bike (without servo/abs) I would assume?

I have been thinking of actually doing it like the the triumph brake lines, in that you have a single line from the master cylinder to one brake caliper, then a loop (over the mudguard) to the other caliper - rather than using the link pipe at the forkbrace - to cut down joints in the lines - there isn't obviously a kit like that for the gs and would have to be assembled separately - Does anyone think that it is the wrong thing to do?

NO idea but s worth calling HEL to give them the dimensions of the lines and ends that you will require... if you need anything just send me a pm as I'm only a few minutes from their base on the old tiverton road.

I did a similar job to what you are thinking except I split at the Mud guard and then went over to the left from there. Basically a 'h' shape.
Huge difference.

My bike currently has a Steel pipe across the fork brace (behind mudguard) and two flexibles down from there. At the fork brace there is a single line up to the reservoir. That is 6 joints. If I was to put the loop in it will cut it down to 4, although on one caliper I will need a double height banjo bolt. I assume it is OK to do this (as I have seen it on quite a few triumphs)

I will ring HEL and get some made up, I just need to estimate the length of the lines as it is a special order.

Thanks Canuck - I may call on you if they need to measure up on a GS :) Bohs - how did you mount the fitting where the pipes split? wouldn't it bounce around ?

I had HEL make up some lines for my 1100 and they went down to the r/h side caliper then split and back over the mud guard. Had no issues with it. Looks nice and neat and will do the same on the 1150 when I get the alloys fitted.:thumb

Norris - Sounds exactly what I want - what sort of money was it when you did it? I don't want to bling it too much, but may have a browse through their options :augie

Thats exactly the way I have it on my bike, got rid of the link pipe alltogether and new loop over the mudguard. My local bike shop posted my original brake lines to Hel and told them to make up a set with matching banjo`s but with the top line 1.5 inches longer to accomodate my bar risers.

With stainless fittings I was charged £45.00 inc postage, Bargain. :)

Well I visited HEL and got them to make up what I required. Price would be 8 years out of date by now but wont be much different to a std set up price.

new price will probably be upwards of that... if anyone wants a few lines pm me... I'm a few miles away and will go pay cash for you and post... works out cheaper than online.
