Supporting Wales Air Ambulance and Medical Care providers in Wales http://www.helimedrideout.co.uk/
Only seeing it advertised 2 weeks ago we registered and were sent sponsorship forms and route. As Nicky and me spend alot of time riding in wales (on & off road) we hoped to help raise much needed funds
As the start was in Llandudno around 130 miles away it was going to be a early start
Nicky's V-strom was dusted off (as her R6 may not be the best bike for this run) and me on the 1200.
6am sunny worcester and we were off
route A449 to Kiddermister
A442 to Bridgnorth & Shrewsbury
A5 to Betws-Y-Coed
A470 to Llandudno
Around 30 miles short of Llandudno the water proofs came out
We arrived at Llanduduo just before 9 am in time to have a chat with some of the other riders
It was great to see a good mix of bikes
We set off down the A55 to Caernarfon and then A4086 to Beddgelert
They like their long names in Wales!
We headed for the toll bridge and A496 to Llanbedr & Barmouth
It's only 30p for motorbikes
Past Harlech Castle & in to Barmouth
This is where we went off route
Will the 1200 fit through ?
We rode Barmouth bridge to Fairboure & A493 to Dolgellau
I've only ever ridden it on a small trail bike and this was Nicky's frist time she's a very good sport and I think she's used to me by now
We did have some funny looks
I've never seem a motorbike cross before was one comment
Not the trails I'm used to
First R V gave Nicky chance to chat up the boys
Down to Tywyn for a shot on the beach (only just push it down for a pic as we all know no riding on the beach)
Machynlleth was the lunch stop. We did the extra loop which took us over the mountain road B4518 to Llanidloes great views of Llyn Clywedod resrvoir
A few more enjoying the loop
Back to the sea and A44 to Aberystwyth
Where I had a manly looking hot chocolate
It was getting late so we upped the pace down the A487 to Cardigan , A484 to Carmarthen & A483 to Swansea and the Marriott hotel
Where an excellent spread of food was layed on
Touratech had a couple of bikes on display with all there goodies on
Nick Plumb Dakar Hero auctioned off some donated goodies
Including the biggest bar of chocolate I've ever seen
It was late by now so we said our goodbyes and rode up to Neath. We stayed at Nicky's mums and in the morning she was just about to take the 1200 for a ride
before I stopped her
The weather was good so we went over to Brecon on the A4059-A470to Hay-on-Wye where we rode the last toll bridge of the weekend then to Leominster and home
Great weekend hope to raise much needed funds for the Air Ambulance
Maybe see afew more from this site next time. I will post details of the 2009 run as soon as I know
