Hello all . . . I think I'm ready to succumb . .

Yup, that's the one. Do they have a reputation?

D

Thats crazy charging for test rides if that is the case.

I have ordered my bike through them and they have been great to deal with over the phone. I've only ordered as they have done a great deal through the IAM. I would have prefered to buy local but one dealer who I'd got a booked test ride left me stood there for half an hour and said they were too busy to help me so I walked out. The next nearest was really good and give me a test ride within 10 minutes of me walking through the door with no appointment but were not flexible on price.

No its got a different steering head angle and rides diffrently I would go for the adventure every time ....you have to fill the tank to the top

Well, that was interesting . . had a test ride on a 1250GS today.

The fantastic riding position was as I remembered (I rode one years ago) and, whilst the torque and power are greatly improved, it is still a tractor! It may be a tractor I can live with as I did feel I could probably ride it all day - but I did miss the turbine-like whoosh of my K1300GT.

I'm going to have a spin on a S1000XR on Sunday. I'm drawn by the potentially smoother engine, but put off my maintaining a chain! Perhaps it will be the mid-ground I'm seeking?

I am however also checking out FJR1300s as there is something about a 100% road bike that feels very right! I'd also like to get out of the BMW 'universe' as I do feel the bikes are overpriced!

Still, it's great to be in a position to choose between such great bikes.

FJR

I went on trip to the alps with some friends whilst I was between GS's on an FJR1300 and they were on GS's, although great on straight road, on the twisties it felt like i had to wrestle it around the corners compared to a GS !! The smoothness of a four is nice, but you soon get used to a twin. I tried an XR recently , but although quick, I found the engine to feel characterless compered to the GS.
Good luck with whatever you end up with.

Yes, the GS is supremely nimble, and maybe I need to focus on that. But oh, the turbine-like smoothness of a big 4 cylinder tourer!

But change is good . . .

Oh god, Boxerlost will be along soon telling us there’ll be an R1600GS M with 17” wheels and 300bhp.

No Nutty wrong again...A GSA is quicker steering than a regular GS due to 5mm less trail...A GS with sports suspension (same shocks & telelever arm) is even quicker steering due to less weight.
And really how can an outdated and heavy 20 year old blunderbus like the FJR in it's last year be even compared with a GS...;)
Then I rather would get the RT that runs circles around the FJR , is lighter , has the same power but tons more of Torque:thumby: The RT is actually pretty amazing and fun to ride for a tourer ! I would take it over an RS due to Telelever that is so much better than any fork:thumb2

I succumbed!

Just put down a deposit on a 1250GS TE with spoked, wheels, comfort seat, Akrapovic can and 1,100 miles on the clock.

At £3k less than new it feels like a bargain. Although I blew that on luggage and a Nav 6!

Well done. Your gain, someone paid a hefty price for their 1100mls
