I have at present a Honda VFR750 which I think is a great bike, and I love riding it, but I'm looking to add a stable mate, and having looked at various options (including the vernarable Pan European) I have set my heart on an RT, although I would prefer an 1150, finances may dictate an older model.

So I've been hovering around in the background for a little while to glean as much info as I can, and am now looking to buy one if the prices don't shoot up as the weather improves

So just a hello from me to you all :natter:natter

Hi Fester,

Welcome to the forum.

Nice bunch of people here.

I can vouch for the Pan. had one for ten years and loved it.

I bought an RT last year and still getting used to it. They are totally different, so make sure you have a go on both before you buy.

I must say I still miss the smoooooth V4, but it used to chuck loads of heat onto your legs in the summer.

Thanks Woodman, yes, I've ridden a pan 1300 and did like the smooth ride, although the one I rode seemed very noisey engine wise when pressed hard, maybe the cam chains?? It was a 2006 model with 25k on the clock, so by no means worn out.
I do like the Honda V4 also, a fantastic engine, but I have always (since I was a boy) liked the boxer engine, and I tested a 1150 a couple weeks ago, and like it, and I think it's a better looking bike than the Pan, and even if it may not have such a technologically advanced engine I prefer it (that may change after a few thousand miles ;-) lol)

Hi Fester, after riding a Pan for a few days that V4 engine would be great in a modern RT frame. I never was that in love with the flat twin engine but I guess it does make good torque

If you can find a really nice 1100RT you won't be disappointed

I wouldn't get the 11RT if I were you. I just sold one, I loved the bike its just that:

The 1150 is much superior and in my view worth the extra, I debated about either having a GS or another RT I opted for the GS as it looses to the RT for motorway riding and bad weather but it absolutely trumps it everywhere else in my view.

1100's can have a problem with oil leaking onto the clutch due to a defective seal, the problem on mine wasn't detectable until you opened the throttle wide open in 5th so watch out and it can really ruin your fun on the bike.

Compared to the R11Rt the 1150GS feels a lot lighter.

1150's just substitute brake fluid for oil on the clutchplate :D 11's don't have whizzy brakes and only need 2 plugs not 4 :P

I prefer the look of the 1150, as I like twin headlamps and with the fog lights on it almost makes it :D

I don't mind the wizzy brakes, if they play up, then they will get a ABS-ectomy if not then great.

I looked at the GS, and do like it, but need the weather protection and comfy pillion seating for SWAMBO, and I have the VFR for more sporty riding, and who knows, I may get a GS sometime in the future if I get bored of the RT.

Still looking for that bargain bike, as my funds are limited, and prices vary wildly across the model range.
