Hi,
Just joined the site & I'm currently trawling through all the info as I seem to be able to find out everything I need here.

Currently riding a 2003 Honda CBR 954RR Fireblade owned from new, but lately the need for all out speed has been dwindling. I love the Honda & would keep it & have a GSA in an ideal world, but hey this isnt an ideal world. So the honda's gotta go.:tears:tears

Due to impending marriage I havent got much of a budget for a bike but have found what looks like a decent 03 1150 GSA in silver that's been dropped resulting in a slightly dented tank. I can live with that for now as long as everything else checks outs. Will be the first BMW I have owned personally, although I did ride a 51 plate BMW 650 GS for Network Rail a few years ago on fast response. Covered about 70,000 miles on my allocated one before it got stolen. Last seen being ragged to death around a park in coventry.

I have a few quick questions.
-Are all the 2003 1150 GS adventures twin spark?
-I'm a smidgen short of 6ft with an inside leg of 32". Will I be ok on a standard height seat?
-What sort of MPG are you 1150GSA guys/gals getting on a normal run (I bike to work everyday at the moment)?
-Any other problem area's to look for when buying an 1150 GSA?

Thanks in advance,
Shane

Hi Shane and welcome to the site, wish I'd found it before I bought mine as I'd have saved a few quid :spitfire

Don't worry about the dented tank, use it as a negotiation tool, you can always fit a Baglux to cover it and you'll dent it again as soon as you go off road :o

You should have no issues with the seat height but a fully gassed ADV will be a shock to you in terms of weight after the 'Blade (there fine once they are moving!)

MPG depends on how you ride / exhaust / Y piece. You should get 45 + if you cruise

1150's don't really break down. Check the service history and for oil weeps around the final drive. Check the oil level in the site glass to see if it's regularly looked after. The bottom yoke can corrode on the headstock.

Good luck with the purchase and check out the West Midlands section, come and meet us soon :thumb2

Ta for the info there Mutley,
Just put a deposit down on the bike. 2003 Adventure model in silver that has been dropped, few scuffs & dings & a broken lower engine crashbar & handguard. It's got a remus can on it at the minute but doesnt come with the standard one. Will see what it's like. Everything else seems ok, Hopefully getting it next wednesday after the place gave me a decent enough trade in price for My blade. Will be hard to let it go though, been riding blades for 8 years now.:(

Actually can't wait to get my hands on it & start fettling & tidying it up.

Welcome to the site :thumb2 Mines an '03 twinspark silver Adventure as well :)

easy enough to spot a single spark one (no extra plug underneath :D)

Just took the blade out for a final ride before the trade in tomorrow, gave it some beans for a while & then started riding like an OAP as I just started fearing I would do something stupid & drop it or similar.

I've subscibed to the site now so will put some wanted ads up as soon as I get the GSA & know exactly what I need. As I can't tax it until I get the V5 I will instead book it in for an MOT at the furthest MOT station I know around here. Well gotta have some fun with it before the long wait for the DVLA to get my V5 sent out.:D
I suppose I could take an indicator bulb out so it's fails & then I would have to ride it all the way back home to change it before riding it back there again...... Could take a while this MOT.:thumb

Yes best of luck mate with the purchase, let us know how things pan out...

Well after waking early on my day off like an excited small child I finally have my first GS.
Havent started cleaning it yet, just tried it for size & i'm glad to say I fit on it fine with the standard seat. Must say it's a wierd feeling to sit on the bike & have it rock sideways when you rev it. Must be used to Jap inline 4's.

A few pics with my now 'old' blade & my other offroader.

Bye bye blade, you will be missed.

As bought.

[quote"fastshow"] It's gripped, it's sorted.....Let's offroad!! [/quote]:D

I won't be taking the GS where the Jeep goes, but that get's to very mental places.
Off to get some fuel & then the tidy up begins.

Couple of dumb rookie questions but as I dont have a manual/service book etc I'm struggling a bit. For starters I need to get the seat off, it doesnt seem to be attached to anything up front (Think I'm missing a bracket maybe?) but how do I release the back of it?
Also have found that my crashbars are not broken, it's just the sump plate that has bent slightly. Is it easy to get off? It looks like just under a few bolts but I was wondering if that upsets anything else?

Thanks in advance.

Seat: There's a key lock on the right (offside) of the seat, just under the rear brake fluid reservoir. Insert ignition key, turn to the right and lift seat from the rear.

Engine bars/bash plate: Bash plate and lower section of the engine bars are best removed in one.

Undo cross-brace bar and remove (two torx bolts and 13mm nuts).

Undo the four recessed 10mm bolts in the bars on both sides (just above the cross-brace).

Under the bash plate four nuts; two at the front are 10mm, two at the rear (behind main stand pivot) are 13 mm.

Note: There are other bolts going through the bash plate. These hold the bash plate to the lower bracket of the engine bars and I have found that it's best not to undo these until the plate and lower bars have been removed together.

Get a torch and identify which bolts in the bash plate are which. The mounting ones are rubber bobbin type. They can shear (as intended).

Well done, nice bike. Why not join us on Sunday for a ride. We are meeting in Worcester. Look in the West Midlands section for the details :beerjug:

Welcome. Nice bike :thumb2 Like the Wrangler too, talk about mental offroad capability :bow

I'm sure you'll have great fun with both of them

Mike P Thanks for that info, very helpful. Cheers.

Shane...that's no standard seat ;)
You know I've been looking at that the last few days thinking "is it the lowered one?"

Is it then?

Nakambale

The Wrangler is very fun, I've had wranglers for the last 14 years & have had a lot of fun in them. Now I've just got to decide which vehicle to take the next time I go laning!:D

Wish I could have a ride out this weekend mate, stuck at work besides which the dumb ass courier guy didnt leave the parcel of bits I ordered to get the bike through it's MOT. Instead they are going to redeliver monday....Grrr. I can't even go & collect them as I'm stuck at work the whole time they are open tomorrow. Never mind, hopefully be out on it soon.

Steve A Nick Tart is a wonderful thing, just send me the sum of £5,000 & I shall send you one.... ;) ;)
