I have a 2002 1150 GS and the ABS light wont go out they flash alternately, I think this is my fault as a pulled the plug apart for the rear sensor while the ignition was on, now I think the ABS needs resetting but all of the online threads say to hold down the ABS button while shorting out 2 of the Pins on the diagnostic plug, my bike does have the round diagnostic plug but unfortunately it does not have the ABS button, does anyone know how to perform a reset without the button?
Thanks in Advance
Andre

Do you have ABS II or the Servo assist brakes??

Look at the Right hand switchgear Is there a round button on top about a cm in diameter ?

When the lights are flashing press it once

It should stop them flashing and only have the bottom light on

Do not short out two pins on the round diagnostic plug!!!!

You short the Brown with the Blue trace to earth

Ign on (Wire already grounded)

Hold down ABS button for 20 to 30 seconds One light should stop flashing and the other become illuminated all the time

Once the time is up release the ABS button

Switch off the Ign and wait 10 seconds and switch it back on

If they flash together the fault is cleared!

If not the Fault needs diagnosed

Procedure #1 for 1150 GS
Cliff notes version
Ground the Brown/Blue wire on the round diagnostic connector under the front seat (clipped to the airbox).
Hold down the ABS button, turn on the ignition (1 minute) turn off ignition, then remove ground wire.
Here's the long winded procedure:-
1. Pull the seat(s) off and find the Diagnostic Connector that is clipped to the airbox. Find a suitable jumper
wire that can be used to connect 2 of the pins in the connector (a paper clip, mini test leads, alligator clip leads).
Try not to bend, fold or mutilate the pins.
2. Make sure the ignition is off, then find in the diag connector the Brown/Blue wire Pin # 2 (ABS Re-set) and
the Brown wire Pin # 4 (Ground). Jumper them together. The connector positions are marked with VERY tiny
numbers on the backside of the connector (where the wires enter the connector). The backside also allows you
to look at the wires and see their respective colors, (just in case you want to verify the labels of the pic above).
3. Turn the ignition on, and push down the ABS button (on the left handle bar pod).
4. After about 1 minute release the ABS button, and turn the ignition off.
5. Remove the jumper connection and turn the ignition back on.
Now you should have two ABS lights flashing together, instead of them alternately flashing.
If not, try again but this time hold the ABS button down BEFORE turning on the ignition.

As with all attempted internet diagnosis, let’s start from the beginning. A couple of simple questions need to be answered from your first post otherwise you’ll be led up the garden path with all sorts of random suggestions - Was your ABS functioning correctly before you pulled the “rear abs plug apart” (I presume you mean unplugged the abs sensor connection ?) with the ignition on - why did you need to unplug the sensor ?

Hi Yes the ABS was fine, I separated the sensor wire at the plug which is under the right side of the top frame tube under the seat as I was looking for the live feed to the rear light
