Hi

This is my first post and wanted to say hi. I got a 75th Anniversary R1100 GS a few weeks ago and it's been in pieces in the garage since I go it. There Wasnt anything wrong with except that it was looking a bit tatty. I've been doing loads of work (and spending too much money) trying to restore it to its original glory. Today I got all parts fitted/refitted... Well almost all. There's a few wires hanging out and I have no idea where they go or came from. Hope I don't have to strip it again to find the sockets.:tears

Here's a photo of it as of this afternoon.

If anyone can help, I've taken a photo of the 3 wires still loose. This small loom splits off the main loom at the ECU box on the left side. The small blue one looks dirty, as if it wasn't connected to anything. The small black one looks like a sensor connector. Same as air box connection and the ones on each throttle body. The big black one is not a plug but fastens somewhere and looks to have a screw adjuster on it.

And this pic hopefully shows the source of the wires.

Also, anyone with a Leo Vince that sounds rattly?

Anyway. Look forward to chatting with you and hopefully I'll be able to offer advice once I'm a bit more familiar with this beast.

Welcome to the site :thumb.

I reckon the problems are terminal.. Give you 20 quid for it....:D

Best colour you have there.. Like the seat. :beerjug:

No idea about the wires (don't worry someone on here will soon come along and tell you) but your bike looks like a cracker. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi and welcome.

You need some hand cream to take those wrinkles out:D

The one on the far right looks like the early type diagnostic connector. Used to test motronic (ECU) and ABS. Tuck it somewhere safe and accessible.

The colour of the wires if you can see them might help.

Thanks for the comments guys. Never kept a bike longer than a year before but this one stick around for awhile. Definitely spent more time with it in last couple weeks than with my girlfriend.

Ian those aren't wrinkles... they're character lines ;) when you say the colours, do you mean the individual wires under the sheathing? I could go out and cut a bit open and have a look if it helps. Engine seems to run fine without these connected but idles high. I just put that down to new plugs, air filter and exhaust. But might be wrong.

You've got more character lines than me :D

Don't go cutting the outer black sheathing. The connectors aren't important to the running of the bike. The only one I would be concerned about is the one connected to the small black device with what looks like a broken bracket.

Can you find the corresponding portion of the Broken bracket?

Is the one with the broken bracket the CO (mixture) potentiometer? In which case it won't matter where it goes (until somebody else wants to find it) as long as it's safe.

Spot on:thumb2

That's exactly what it is! Though where it goes, I have not a scooby.

The connector in the middle might be the one for the timing valve, which is only fitted to US models and Is usually found tucked up under the frame on the right hand side behind the fuse box.

The CO potentiometer resides on the right hand side of the bike, rear of the fuse box. Just where the rider's seat ends. Top frame tube.

Have a look there, you might find the remains of the bracket.:thumb2

Thanks ill have another look there. The bracket isn't broken.. it's bent to a right angle and just a bit rusty so should go back on in place no problem :nenau

So consensus is that none of these connect to anything and just need a safe hiding place? Great. I'll have a look this morning and report back.

Unfortunately it's pissing rain in edinburgh so test ride will have to wait. Doh.

plugs

the one on the righthand side of picture looks like the diagnostic plug if so sits under front seat just behind the fuse box

I'll agree with the others, neither of those connectors are important, as previously stated the one on the right is the BMW diagnostic connector (which can be used with a normal analogue multimeter or a 12v LED as described here : http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=782853)

The injector type plug is for the US charcoal canister / emissions component not fitted to European bikes. The CO potentiometer, fits to the right of the rear frame so the hole in the rear mudguard / plastic, lines up with the screw hole in the potentiometer.

Nice looking bike, hope you enjoy it!

Nice bike and colour scheme, here's mine:D

And one with it in Europe somewhere.

Spot on. I'm not sure if I attached it in the right place but it near enough lines up with the hole. I'm glad to know that they don't belong anywhere. A bit of piece of mind when riding.

Shready. That's nice and so shiny. I'm also thinking about some better boxes. I like yours.

Just went out for a short test ride. When up to temp I'm idling at 2500 rpm! It was if anything a bit low (900-1000) before I did the work. And this Leo vince sounds like sh!t. Very harsh and some rattling/pingy sound.

Is there many of you on here with the 75th anniversary edition? I read somewhere only 750 were made for the whole world... Wonder how many are still around.

Not sure how many were made. There are a few around, they change hands on here every once in a while.

Thought Id breifly update before this thread dies...

Choke cable was slightly pinched under rear frame. Idle speed now down to 1800... Still a bit to go.

Removed the baffle from the Leo vince and now has a much smoother and deeper tone, although a bit louder. But the rattle/squeak is gone.what a great design.. Not

Thanks for all the help and comments lads. Catch you around:beerjug:
