Helmet camera advice pls

I am after a helmet camera to take photos only (not videos as I would never edit them..). I have a Drift Ghost XL which does the job but the resolution is far from great. And I understand GoPros, Insta 360, etc, are more biased towards videos. I see poor reviews of the Sena 50C with users unhappy with its resolution. Any advice on further options appreciated. Many thanks

Innovv released one, but the cameras are now sold out and they are not producing anymore. Drift actually went under a couple of years ago. Everyone is selling old stock which apparently is shipped from a warehouse in Hong Kong, so nothing new being built or developed and limited UK support.

Helmet cams for dash cam use, seem to be out of favour. Innovv want you to buy their fixed cams, again interestingly are being heavily discounted at the moment and their cameras don't have the latest processors. So if I was a betting man, I'd say Innovv are either developing their N2 setup or have no cameras in the pipeline.

I was looking to replace my Drift, but there doesn't seem to be many options, I was looking for a pure dash cam replacement, not for blogging.
 
Don't buy the SENA 50C, resolution isn't so bad but battery life is piss poor. Even when it was new it wouldn't record any longer than 45mins. If it wasn't for the fact I dropped it and scratched the dial, I would have returned it. Yes, the battery was poor before I dropped it. I still use it but only for comms, the battery is fine for that so it's not the battery that's the problem.

I ended up getting a GoPro Hero 13. The review from DC Rainmaker was convincing. The main reason is simplicity of processing for my simple photo only needs. Cheers
 
Is this to actually wear on a helmet?

From what I understand they are becoming illegal in some countries now. If using attached to the bike its the anti vibration that is critical to picture quality.

Low res now compared to what is available but I still have a Garmin virb. I used to leave it running set to take one pic every 30 seconds. The battery lasted much longer that way and whilst there were a lot of none interesting pics to delete you were left with a good summary of a trip and a few gems including coffee stops

Like you, i can never be arsed to edit movies and get bored even watching them back.

Any cameras are illegal to use in some European countries, not specifically helmet mounted. You need to check what is allowed as regards to filming publicly. Helmet wise, as long as you don't compromise the helmet ie don't drill it, then there are no more restrictions than fixed systems.

I do not believe that to be the case in Spain according to my friend who lives there.

Yes, on helmet. I also ordered a chest strap to experiment. Will be used mostly in remote areas such trails or low traffic mountain roads in Pyrenees. The reviews on anti-vibration tech seems good. Fingers crossed…
 
I have a gopro 9 so much older, the anti vibration works well so long as it is on a fixed mount that doesn't shake. Most do!
You don't get anything like the problem when mounted to yourself.

I set the gopro to one touch turn on and record and have it mounted to my mirror arm . Easy to use then and can see if it's running or not.

Chest cams make a great perspective for off roading👍

You are right according to my AI search, my bad. Yet helmet mounted bluetooth comms units are not illegal - bizarre. But my point still stands that even fixed cameras are on dodgy ground in some countries, UK all is ok at the moment
 
I have an old GoPro 10 Black. I use it on a chin mount on my helmet and an “ out front “ mount on my emtb. The anti vibration is superb and picture quality is pretty good. You can get a waterproof “ pass through “ door that you can connect a power lead to so the battery is constantly charged from either a power bank or 12v supply.

The way I get photos from an action cam is to run it as a video cam then screenshot the pics from the video footage gives you much more oppotunity to get the right pic

Never used a chin mount, but assume that doesn't work with a flip helmet!

Oh I don’t know, you can film forwards with the helmet down and behind you with it up! :D
