Helmet foging

Okay, I have a schuberth S1 pro, and was wondering what products are out there to stop the foging. I went to Preston on Monday and the weather was rediculously wet, and with the complications of the cold it's the worse I've had to deal with. I used to use a fog city with my Arai, but because of the shape of the visor on the S1 I'm not sure they do one. And a pinlock seems an expensive option. I also wear specs which also complicate things. All advice gratefully considered.

I've always used Pinlock and think they are well worth the expense. I also wear glasses so know you're pain.

Pinlock is absolutely useless; no, worse than useless. Once you get condensation between the layers then you'll have to stop, remove the pinlock clean both sides and either replace it or (the sensible option) throw it away.

Another vote for Pinlock (on my Shoei). In 4 years of use I've never got moisture in between the visor and Pinlock and its always worked a treat.

I wear specs when riding too and suffered with my Caberg for months until I realised what 'Pinlock' actually meant. Either foging (sic ) up of specs and visor in seconds or riding with visor cracked open and a waterfall running down the inside. Since fitting the Pinlock insert I can ride quite happily in cold, wet and sandstorm and still see where I'm going.

Like Andres, never had an issue with condensation between Pinlock insert and visor. I had tried a couple of 'anti-fog' preparations previously and, frankly, found them a complete waste of money.

You're not meant to install a pinlock in the rain

To the OP - the Pinlock system is brilliant, just make sure you install it while you're inside the house, in a dry environment. Worth every penny.

A pinlock needs to be adjusted properly to work properly.

Had a shite Nolan version a few years ago and it was useless, but the arai is a genuine pinlock and with a little adjustment it seals 100% around its edge.

Worth taking a little time to get it right to save future hassles

Pinlocks are great not sure what your supposed to do with the sun visor thought that mists up as well!!
Only thing i have done that works is when you goto a show and buy that pink stuff make sure you use it on your specs and sun visor!

Pinlock comes as standard on my X-lite, but you have to fit it yourself. If you don't fit them properly, and don't make sure that they're sealed all the way round, they don't work. I think they are the business.

I have an S1 and use it with a pinlock which works well. You do have to make sure it fits correectly as it needs a good seal and its worth taking it off every few months, clean it with fairy liquid, rinse and let it completely dry before re-fitting.

I also wear glasses with which I keep fog clear by using Fog Tech solution. You only need a very small amount - I bought a bottle of the stuff three years ago and it still has loads left. Each use lasts 4-5 days. It will also work on the internal sun visor. Don't use too much otherwise it leaves an oily residue which is in itself a bit distracting. I did try this on the main visor, but didn't like the "film" it left behind (doesn't matter so much with glasses as they are closer to the eye and less affected) so switched to pinlock.

I have pinlock on two Shoei Multitechs and a very new Schuberth C3 Pro - they are work, period.

The chap in Infinity advised that if you ever get the damp setting into the gap between the visor and the pinlock them you need to remove/clean then refit and tighten it up by turn the two screws that the pinlock attaches to slightly

Got Tour X3 fitted with Pinlock from new, ace solution which normally works well, although did get some damp in when riding late one night in the rain and had to have the tinted lens up to see in the dark, water forced its way between the seal and started to fog, easily dried back at home and refitted. I use the clear through the winter and the tinted version through the summer.

If you need to resort to a wipe-on solution, I tried all kinds of products to keep long-distance cold-water swimming goggles clear (they have just the same issues), and only this product worked:

Had it fitted by the dealer who sold me the helmet (Shoei Multitech) - I took it back because it didn't work. Still doesn't work and I've removed it.

A dealer doesn't necessarily do it with the precision that you would yourself. Unfortunately dealers are often under time pressures or are too busy being jack of all trades, that I wouldn't take a dealer installation as being any more than making the thing stick into you visor without falling out

It took me 20 minutes of fecking around to get mine to fit all the way around and seal properly. 0 degrees on a foggy Sunday up at the ponderous the other week and it was clear and fog free inside my visor.
