Both my normal road type helmet and my enduro helmet are coming up to replacement time.
The enduro helmet is not used for enduros but simple bimble type trail riding.
I think the answer is no but I'll ask just in case.
Can anyone recommend a single do it all crash helmet that can be used for both easy trail rides and normal road riding ?
Thank you.

Easy trail rides = any road helmet TBH if you don't want the expense of two lids.

But, have you not considered the obvious, Shoei Hornet DS or Arai TourX. Both come with visors but can be worn with goggles. There are plenty of cheaper 'me too' variants out there from cheaper manufacturers.

I have had both, my preference is for the Shoei as I think it looks better :blast and 'cos Shoei's just seem to fit my head shape a bit better.

Thanks very much Andres,

Nothing is obvious to me really as I bought my current helmets a few years ago and don't know what's out there now as it's not something I keep up to date with.

But very good idea, thank you.

Ah, ok :) Well, both the lids I mentioned seem to be the default helmet of choice for GS riders, much like the Twat suit ;)

I've used these types of lids for many years on road before I got a GS. I prefer them on road to normal full faces as they have a much bigger visor area and field of vision. Personaly I dislike goggles so even use them with the visor when off roading :thumb2

Some peeps don't like them in cold weather, pah I say! Here's an esteemed member of the forum wearing the Arai version during our little trip through La Belle France a few years ago :rob

i like my tour x ,i have had two now,i have an arai head:D.the peak is really useful for deflecting branches etc when on the lanes and as a sun visor.but if most of your mileage is on the road you will get turbulence and buffeting from the peak.before deciding on a certain style i would concentrate more on the "fit" of the helmet .different brands have a very different fitment.mike

Thanks Mike and Andres,

Google now tells me that Infinity in Norwich stock both the Shoei and the Arai so I shall raid the piggy bank and go and see them tomorrow.

Extra field of vision has got to be good and I'm a wimp and don't ride in the winter so the cold weather is not going to be a problem.

Thanks very much, appreciated.

Harder to find at the moment, but another choice is the X-lite. I am very impressed with mine, after just over a year and quite a few miles.

I highly recommend the BMW Enduro lid:

Very light, great vision, quiet for an enduro lid, peak is removable, good price (compared to a TourX) and compatible with goggles (with or without the visor) Only downside is that it's not straightforward to fit a autocom type unit.

First one lasted 40k miles of commuting, touring and offroad abuse - only thing wrong with it is the seal around the visor is no longer keeping the water out.

I have the tour X as Arai fit me better.

with the peak on, it is a great lid on the GS and with the peak off, it looks well on the fireblade, definitely a quality lid which looks good any where.

I did look at the BMW Enduro one too as mentioned by Mav but I couldnt get to try one on over here so stuck to the Arai.

The Uvex Enduro helmet is lovely looking too and very similar to the BMW but cheaper so might be worth consideration if you can get to try one.

i have the uvex version. the trick with the visor is to adjust the pivots "just so". i'm assuming the bmw version has the same visor mounts that are adjustable with 2 screws?
a fiddly job, and seems to need doing too frequently. for that reason, i can't really recommend the uvex,. that and the fact they don't sell them anymore. otherwise they are a good helmet. i imagine the, near identical bmw helmet is just as good (and bad).

buy a tour-x.

Thanks for all the additional recommendations people, most appreciated.

I shall visit downtown Norwich on the 'morrow, wander round the Infinity and BMW shops and try and spend some money.

Thanks again.

How does the AGV compare to the Tour-X ?

Lighter, quieter, cooler (better vented), warmer (with the nose and chin deflectors in place). It seems really well put together. Only negative so far is the visor doesn't seem to open up quite as far so sits in my peripheral vision a bit more when open. V good for the money, and PDG at any price.

Does the same apply compared to the BMW Enduro lid?

Always had a soft spot for AGV as they were the brand my Dad used - would be great to get one...

All but the lighter I think. The BM lid is pretty light.
