Helmet headphones

Has anyone fitted a headset into their helmet [calm down out there!] I would like to listen to the radio, or my own music. How good are these ipod or mp3 thingummy bobs. What recommendations do you have?

Hi,

Get your self a set of inear monitors from Ultimate Ear, and add a MP3 or Mini disc player and away you go.

As the in ear monitors are also ear plugs, you only have to have the mini disc set at 4. (Sony Mini Disc I use anyway)

All a piece of cake.

Of course you could go the whole hog and fit a Autocom, and have phone, GPS, walkie talkie and the Music, watch out on this forum it will cost you money, always some one with a good new idea.

I use an iPod linked up to Sony earbuds with my system 4 helmet - I find the earbuds also act as noise filters and the sound is excelleny even on the bike. With most mp3 players you can create your own specific play lists and it's easy just to press play to whatever you want to listen to depending on your mood. Currently I have around 4,500 tracks on mine.

I do the same, only with a iriver mp3 player thing. I find the sony earbuds are great, but the volume suffers at motorway speeds, in my aria, anyway. Still, great for not having to miss any of the Today program on the way into work!

I got a Dainese catalogue in the new copy of Bike, and they now have a Bluetooth helmet as well (like BMWs). Allows rider to passenger chatting, and linking up with other Bluetooth enabled things like phones. I guess it must have speakers built in.

I'd second the in-ear moulded earplugs with inbuilt speakers though - I'm about to get a pair myself. Autocom speakers aren't loud enough with high attenuation earplugs.

Just bought a sony walkman radio. The 1150 was in SPC having new master cylinder, then ABS pump fitted under warrantee. They gave me a 650 AS A COURTESY BIKE, GOOD RECEPTION. gET MY OWN BIKE BACK, BLOODY RADIO INTERFERENCE. aNY IDEAS ANYONE?

In the old days one would guess unsuppressed spark plugs/HT leads... do you have OEM plugs fitted?

The suppression is usually in the plug cap, isn't it?

Is the interference definitely related to engine speed? If not, it could be coming from some other electronic device on the bike.

If I put my sony radio lowdown in the Tank bag or lower jacket pocket I get interferance (on a 650) but if I put it in the top pocket of my jacket or top pocket of the tank bag there is none. It did'nt happen with my old Aiwa walkman/radio so maybe Sony radios lack the shielding rather than an electrical problem with the bikes.
