Hi

What are the legal requirement regarding wearing a crash helmet in Morocco?

Thanks

The police wear them...but they don't fasten the straps so doubt you'll get any hassle.

I have never ridden without a helmet, so would experience it.
Got to try everything at least once.

Some of the old farts on here (like me) remember what it was like riding without a helmet in the UK before the legislation to make it illegal.

In Morocco it seems to be completely optional. You can get casques from the supermarket for about £15 but not many wear them. If the weather is lovely and warm there's nothing better than riding (slowly and carefully) in just jeans and t-shirt. Here's a couple of videos riding in Morocco without a helmet.

Hmmmmmm

Just how much does sir look forward to a significant head injury in Morocco?

Given that minutes matter and you will be a long way from a half decent neurosurgeon, is it really worth the risk?

My neurosurgical colleagues here say they see very few bad head injuries in bikers these days as lids are so good*

*That's not to say the other injuries can't kill you!

Trust you to get your kit off for the camera, but, hey hang on a minute, where's your check shirt, we that know you know that you never off road without the proper protection. i.e. check shirt:augie

Touring helmets

While you hard men on your GSs no doubt get cooked in your Darth Vader off road helmets, we touring riders (mine's an 1100RT) have the option of the Shark Evo which can be ridden full face or open face, both fully EU legal. On a trip to Spain last year the open face option was a godsend in 35 degree heat. It's not the quietest or the lightest helmet, and the sun visor's not up to much, but the fresh air and ability to swap modes on the move if need be compensates for all these failings.

My preference is for flip tops and I currently use a BMW System V and take the optional open face kit for when it's hot. The System VI doesn't have an open face option so not sure what to buy next.

The Shark looks like a fine helmet.

Great videos Tim, thanks for posting, regarding the helmet, whatever the law says ill be wearing one :aidan

Been and now back, wore the helmet all the way considered it just too dangerous not to wear one, that bloody sun on my bald patch is a killer... :)

I think we can all say we have done something stupid in the past & will do in the future.
I have ridden with out a helmet in the UK loved it, if there is no firm law on it then fine just bear in mind most Travel Insurance tell you you must wear helmet
