Hi guys, i am sure trhis topic has been discussed before but as i am new here please bear with me. I have only had my 1200Gs for a couple of months but as soon as i bought it i was getting a stiff neck & shoulder pains. I put this down to a different riding position from my 1150R. however it has not really improved & i am now thinking that it is due to the different aerodynamics of the bike / screen /riding position etc. & possibly my system 4 helmet. I am thinking of buying a new helmet & fancy a Schuberth C2, any comments? I particularly want a flip front and i like the idea of the drop down sun visor. It is also a bit lighter than the S4

Hi Beemerman,
I have just fitted a taller Screen (Nippy Normans) to my GS12 and positioned the bars as far back as possible, it now tons more comfortable and the amount of pressure on my head considerably reduced.
Much cheaper than a new lid :thumb

hi piggers, thanks for the reply. When you say put the bars as far back as possible, are you still using the standard mount or nippys risers / bar back kit?

A bit more info mate - what height/weight are you...? That way we can find a match for you and figure the problem... I also have a secdem screen for Nippy and can vouch for its effectiveness but I never had the sore neck problem you're having...

shoulder pains

I suffered from shoulder pains at first,
was tempted to get some risers but now
the shouder pains have vanished,
so i guess i've got used to the riding position.

I'm using an Arai Tour X

Although the C2 is a very quiet helmet off the bike I get loads of wind noise when riding a GS. I have the tall nippy norman screen and on the highest position that is reduced but then you don't get any flow through the vents. I prefer my old Shoei when riding the 1200.

More hours on the bike I believe is the solution...what an excuse!

Seriously I wentt thru the same thing but with the seat - then my a*se made the adjustment for me and now I can go for hours without a break.

That didn't come out right.....

Beemerman,
I still use the standard mounts, but have the bars angled back a bit more than I would normally have them.
(If was going to do some offroading I would raise them to be more in line with the forks).
I think the standard bars have quiet an unusual bend on them, compared to other bars I have used. (I think I read a post about someone fitting Renthals to eliminate this).
It worked for me and only takes minutes try.
(I think an 8mm socket fits the bar bolts if you don't have a Torx handy)

Cheers, Piggers

Have the Schuberth helmet - wouldnt buy it a second time. The flip front is good, but the helmet isnt as comfortable as my cheap Schoei full face, is very noisy, quite draughty, and the flip down sunvisor (whilst a bl**dy good idea) is a funny shape and doesnt come fully down.

Thanks to all for the response. i think that more hours are required although i did manage to put in 1800 miles in the first 6 weeks. i have not been able to ride much over the last few weeks due to work etc but must get down to some serious riding soon. Interesting about the uncomfortable seat tho, i was considering a gel pad but again i might wait and see if it becomes more comfortable with use. The riding position is much different to my previous bikes & i suppose i adjusted to them with use.

Out of interest i dont think that my size etc to too odd - 5`11, 12 stone, (sorry this is old money for the youngsters out there)
