I have mislaid my (only :augie) key for the steering lock. NB no ignition on these bikes! Every other bike has loads of spare keys :blast

The little key code doofer (with which if I understand correctly I could order a replacement key) was of course on the same keyring as the (now missing) key. :blast I do not need assistance pointing out that I am even more of a plonker than the kind of plonker who loses his only key :(

Honda dealer tells me there are only 2 types of key pattern and there is a code on the bike near the steering lock barrel saying which it is. But there isn't, or not that I can see anyway.

Honda UK tell me they cannot supply a key code from the chassis or engine numbers and that the only way to order a replacement key is:
(a) with the little key code doofer (that I've lost) or, in some cases;
(b) the key code may be stamped on the bike in a difficult-to-find place, although Honda UK couldn't tell me where on the bike that might be. [This makes no sense to me as they tell me they don't supply key codes from the chassis or engine number as "it's a security issue", yet they say some bikes have the key code stamped on the bike somewhere – why stamp it on the bike if it’s a security issue - baffles me, but that's what they said ]. They say the only other option is;
(c) replacement barrel and key, although they can't even guess how much that might cost.

Anyone know where on the bike this code might be or got any better idea ? I would just take the bike to the dealer to sort, but the steering lock is on so I can't ride it and I don't have a van or trailer. Additionally, although they were trying to be helpful, I’m not sure I trust the info they’ve given so far. I can get the barrel drilled out by my local mechanic dude, but would rather leave it intact if at all possible.

On a separate note, why am I such a bloody ar5e ? :tears While you're pndering, I'm off to empty the hoover bag - I'm sure I've looked everywhere else :blast :blast :blast

Not even some abuse .... :tears

anyone ? :nenau

Hoover bag drew a blank as well :blast

I have had a look but it's not here with me. Perhaps you can just ride around in circles? :type:thumb

Sorry don't know anything about them but I hope you sort it before you miss this glorious riding weather.

ta :comfort
already missed one ride out and going to miss another on Sunday at this rate :tears

'phoned dealer again to try and clarify earlier confusion. They now say they can't even find a part number to replace the barrel and key (contradicting Honda UK) and the replacement keys they mentioned earlier are just blanks which have to be cut from (wait for it) the spare key. Genius. Still doesn't get me away from being a total ar5ew1t for losing the key, though :mad:

It's not 1-N-2-3-4-5 is it?

:hide

:hapybnce:

v good :D

No, it's not that, or

A - D - N - O - H

:mmmm

Monsieur Spout - in the (increasingly unlikely) event I manage to find this key or otherwise sort the problem by Sunday, are off road beginners OK to attend with your Peak District bimble ?

Of course. Just say "yeh" or "nay" on the PD post by 8am Sunday so I know if you've been successful or not :blast

Try ...

... consulting a locksmith rather than a Honda stealer, it is after all a fairly simple lock.

Failing that, a slam hammer is your friend :augie
