Has anyone got any more options I can investigate before I throw my Garmin 2610 and Autocom 200 into the bin?

Despite replacing leads and jacks, checking just about every combination of plugs into hole etc etc the best my Garmin/Autocom offers me at the moment is what appears to be completely random intermittent audio.

The instructions from the Garmin start and then cut out before the whole instruction is complete. Equally, the rider to pillion communication sometimes works and sometimes doesn't - often seems to be okay when the engine is turning over and I am stationary but as soon as I engage gear and pull away it all goes dead. (Sometimes) when I slow down it starts working again other times it doesn't. As I've said, I have replaced dodgey looking wires and jacks but to no avail. Is there anything else I can do or should I just admit defeat - loathed to so as love taking son out on the back but understandably missus won't let him go until this is sorted. Can't really afford to replace right now.

Have to say never been totally satisfied with this combo although the Garmin always worked perfectly on the Pan I had previously - autocom was fitted to the bike new back in 05 - it has always been temperamental on the gs.

The audio lead from the 2610 is notorious for failing where the male and female plugs join. Many folks heve just cut the plugs off and soldered the bare wires. Mine is OK, so i suppose i've been lucky.

Don't know about the intercom.
Have you asked Vines or Bahnstormer to look at the installation?
Failing that you could book an appointment with Richard at the factory - I don't think anyone has ever left there other than completely satisfied.

Thanks John.

I did have Bahnstormer look at it and of course it worked perfectly for them, although it was static at the time. I'll have a look at the audio leads and see if I can borrow a soldering iron.

Alternatively, a ride up to Autocom is on the cards.

It sounds like the common Garmin power and audio lead issue where the jack plug is lose inside the jack plug socket, so back in the day we use to cut off the jack plug and jack plug socket and hard wire the two leads together.

So I can offer you this service no problems at all if you would like to book an appointment in with us. All you would have to pay is around 30 mins labour so just over £20.

Hi Rich

Am looking for an opportunity to head up your way so will book in for a 'health check' and get you to do what needs doing - might have to wait a bit to find the right gap in diary but will definitely be in touch.

Many thanks

Hi Charlie,

No worries, all you would need to to is give us a ring once you know when you would be free, our number is 01926 431249.

Cheers

Rich, will do mate. Just a thought though (I may be being a numpty) why would a dodgy Garmin lead result in intermittent rider to pillion audio? Might I need to prepare myself for the cost of replacing the 'box'?

No not at all, this would be something either headset or comms related, we can have a check over on your system when you book in. System wise I would say a new one would not be needed unless you are looking at upgrading at some point.

Brilliant. Will be in touch to arrange asap.

Brilliant

One fully functional system with sat nav and intercom doing what they're supposed to do - oh, the clarity!!!! A big thank you to autocom. Rich, please pass on my thanks to Paul.
