Guys, there`s a single M12 that holds the front of the suspension `dog bone` on.

the image below will hopefully show you what I mean.

I`m presuming its a left hand thread but even swinging on it I can`t get it to loosen.

it could be that I just don`t have any balls (often the case, I`m gutless of course) but if it`s not I could just be missing something. Does anyone know before I either a) break something or b) grow some?

It`s for the lowering assembly I`m developing...............

Any help appreciated.

Actually, as it turned out I was being a Jessica Wendy Pants and all it needed was a force beyond `I`m about the break something` and it became free!

Anyhoo its off now and shown in the lower part of the image - the part which is replacing it (less the all important locking half nuts) is shown above it and will allow some adjustment on the height of the bike, if anyone is interested in what its for.

no harm in being cautious , having had my fair share of oh no that's fucked it moments , and with the cost of bmw spares it makes sense .

Was it a left hand thread after all????

Actually no - standard RH thread, I just presumed it went the other way coz I couldn't get it to free up doh - until I put big leverage on it

Please tell us you put Loctite on it again when you put it back. It'll save it falling out, you see.

Thanks for your concern Wapps and yes I did :bounce1

But I`m taking it out again anyway cos I want to swop the threaded bar for BZP HT as it`s tougher than the SS (5.9 ish with HT being 8.8) and the M12 OEM bolt (which is loctited in) is HT, I can tell when I lick it :drool................)

Are you going to develop something similar for the 1200s ?

I would abs love to as my beloved GSA is still just a tadge too big for me but I just can`t see how I could do it - I`ve looked and looked and looked till I`ve had to drink excessively (so its not all bad eh) but I just can`t seem to think of where or how the linkage would fit to compress the shocker............

I`ve always respected the knowledge and support I`ve got from the forum so if anyone has any suggestions (apart from funny ones like buy a lowered GSA :D) then I am all ears - but I`m fekked if I can see how to do it :blast

Mark, I suffer the same disadvantage in the leg department, which means its always a problem for me too. I have welded short bolt onto the side stand allowing me to lift it while still being in the "tripod" position before moving off, so that helps. Maybe it cant be done by any other means than fitting lowering springs. Looks like a set of Wilbers will have to be purchased.

Yes I think so pal - I had my TC fitted with lowered Wilbers and it made a huge difference - btw this is what I came up with for the XR but the geometry is different on the GSA
