Help me please, the dark side is calling !!

I have just sold my current bike and started to seriously look for a replacement. When I noticed Triumph Tigers are incredible value for money.I could get an 01 or 02 with luggage for my budget of £4.5K. This is compounded by the fact that their does not seem to be any GS`s about at the moment.

I vowed that I would not buy another brand other than BMW but bloody hell. Only the dealers have any 1100GS`s and they want £5k plus for 97/98 bikes which I would happily purchase but not at £5k.I set my heart on a GS but feel like im being forced into buying a Tiger as the only other multi purpose bike worth having.
The GS is a victim of its own success I guess.

I dont really want to go without shaft drive & heated grips and I would really like to read your points of view on this thread good or bad. I know this is a GS forum so apologies for bringing up the unholy name of Triumph here and apologies in advance for moaning.

Just type "R 1100 GS" into "modell" box.

Here you go - the cheapest start at 3600 euros on German market. At least 90% of the bikes have heated grips i think coz it's BMWs standard and 100% have shaft drives anyway :) There's no double taxing in EU so you could fly to Germany with cheap aircompany (costs max 65£) and ride it home - you just need to pay for transit number (130£ it was for me) riding through europe and registering in UK then :) You can always compromise with the seller too - i've discounted at least 200-500euros from the bike if you know what you don't like on the bike (some scratches, worn tyres, battery etc etc :P)

Look for UKGSer market too in this forum - often bargains come by.

Cheers, Margus

There's an 1100GS in Rite Bike (Newcastle, Westgate Road) for £4500. Sorry, don't know details but he only deals in very clean (usually mint) bikes. He's had it a while (don't know why, probably just slow time of year for selling) so may be open to a bit of haggling.

His phone no. is 0191 2614424

Hope this helps, good luck with your search.

David

Thats why this forum is worth its weight in gold with that kind of information.:thumb

i've just sold a perfectly good 1100GS for £2550 , didn't fly out the door -

i'll also have an 1150GS with 12K miles for under £4K in the not to distant future -- there are loads of bikes out there -

Steptoe cant pm you for some reason but would you let me know when the 1150 comes in.

You have to ask yourself the obvious querstion really don't you.....

Why are Triumphs so cheap and why aren't there many GS's about???

S'obvious really.

;)

Like you, I set my heart on a GS. Bought an 1150 for about £4.5k on 51 plate from (now seems well known) back street mechanic/dealer in north east London. Saw him advertise another this week 2001 Y reg with 19k miles for similar money.

I wasn't sure what I was letting myself in for but he seemed to know his BM stuff and is one of motorworks' best customer (not sure if thats good or bad!)

My bikes no museum piece but it looks great to me, runs very well for 38k, no problems and as its got a few very minor battlescars I wouldn't mind trailing/rallying it without the worry of dropping a 'virginal' bike.

Riding to Croatia and back in June this year and I'm sure it'll do for a good number of years after that.

PS anyone wanna buy the 'plate - EY51 PUF - married, two kids -not my kind of thing!

If thats the one in Woodford, let me know if you want an 'inspection' as I only live up the road.

Thanks Paul
That would be appreciated I think this maybe the guy who deals in ex police machines which are used for low profile surveilance.
