Help!!! Bike Stopped... fuel pump?

"Alarm re-fitted"..... does it have an immobiliser?

:nenau

Yes it does, the original alarm packed up a while back and it was removed. Yesturday Datatool replaced the Alarm for a new one under warrenty and i had it fitted yesturday. And yes I have thought about, would like to rule out the other things 1st before I send back and get it removed.

Being an 1100 rider I may be off but on the 1100 models there is a clutch switch too - when this goes everything dies. Not sure if there is one on the 1150 but I suspect there may be. Have a listen when you pull the clutch lever in (engine off) and listen for the quiet clicking of a switch - it you hear it clicking as you pull the lever in and out you have one then you need to investigate further.
Here's the story when my clutch switch died : http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62145&highlight=clutch+switch

Not a great believer in coincidences here.....that comes in high on the suspect list I'm afraid :blast

The fact that you'd ridden it fifty miles though could indicate a loose wire ....I think I'd be looking at the alarm /immobiliser very careful and wiggling all the wires and connections, with the ignition on , listening for any reaction from the pump .it could be a dry connection that they've disturbed, or the fuse for the alarm?

They don't fail very often at all....it's nearly always poor installation that causes alarm probs.

Good luck:thumb2

Just remembered something. I was riding back home monday almost on empty when I pulled into the petrol station I heard what sounded likc a screming noice from the bike. once i filled it back up it dissapeared, I initially put it down to the fact I probably only had about a litter left so the pump was complaining.
So possibly got crap or water in the pump which may explain if the pump has packed up so will empty and clean it out tomorrow but would that cause the RID to pack up?

They both work off the same fuse, so it's possible.

Might be worth sticking 12v across the pump terminals (remove it from tank first and do it carefully!) and seeing if it runs still.

EDIT....Start on the simple stuff first though ;)

Easy enough to put 12v on the pump terminals at the connector plug to test if pump is ok or not. Two wires are for the level thing, harmless to put power on them.

Well i've taken the pump etc out of the tank,
Ran power directly through the pump and itsounds like it's working ... so I guess the pump is ok and the filter looks ok :)

so it's got to be something else

As i've got the tank off going to clean it out anyway and make sure there is no water in it then think what to do next........

By the way thanks for all your help and ideas so far :thumb2

just spotted a very small hole in the fuel gauze so I guess this needs replacing, going to change the filter anyway as I have it all out.

Quick question, as I have the tank off and disconnected, would this effect the RID? or can I assume I can carry on checking the bike until I get the RID working without thw Tank connected? I presume the fuel level wouldn't work anyway but does it effect the tempreture gauge?

Why not connect the sender/pump gubbins up anyway, it does not need to be in the tank to be connected?

Things are looking good. connected the fuel pump and all the gibbings back to the bike (except the tank) and RID now works and Pump whhiiirrssss :thumb

I found a small hole in the gause on the bottom of the pump have that on order and replacing the filter at the same time, put it all back together tomorrow and hopefully it will all work :-) I'm guessing something like water got into the pump and it stopped, but by taking it all apart and jiggling with it has cleared what ever it was

thanks so much guys, much some a differance to have people to bounce ideas off.. your stars :bow

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow in one piece

Oh well 5 miles up the road on a test run after replacing all the filters and such on the fuel pump and guess what, after a few minutes of stutering...... dies.. again.
Got it home fitted a new fuel pump layed the tank on the bike and all starts well (even had a witness this time), put the tank on properly, starts then gave it a bit of revs and hey prewsto died...

This has really baffled me, it's going in the garage tomorrow had enough :(

Well it's now been fixed, so go on 3 guesses????
No,,...
erm no...
and No..

It was a block connector under the tank where the cut-off switch circut connected to the main loom.....

I'm just glad it's working now.
Thanks for all your help, even though I put in a new fuel pump, it turns out to be the simpliest of things............ the art is finding it. :D
