ok chaps, consider this one for me....
riding home last night, on the trusty Walrus ('95 R1100GS), just come off M1 and heading thru' the delightful environs of Watford when I noticed a rather loud metallic rattle that was coming from the engine room. Stopped and had a listen; seems to be coming from the front centre of the engine. It's v. lound, sounds like an M10 nut being shaken vigourously in a tin. Not coming from rockers or rear of engine. Doesn't sound like big ends, keeps time with revs and sounds SERIOUS. However, no loss of power, no miss fires, oil temp normal. In fact, I had just been thinking how well it had been running. I rode it home (gingerly) with no problems.
In the last month, I've had a cylinder head gasket replaced, and while it was apart, they replaced the pulley wheels and belt.
I'll probably take the front off the motor to check the pulleys are not flapping around but other than that, can't think what it is. Any ideas?
2nd problem is where to take it to get fixed? I used to use Bracken in South London (near to work) but they've stopped being interested in Beemers. As the bike is at home in Herts, (near Kings Langley, J20 M25) I need to find someone more local. Would prefer an independant rather to a main dealer, but either will do. Any recomendations?
