I recently fitted a full Remus exhaust with Remus Hexacone silencer to my 2007 GS.
I have just noticed that the exhaust gasses are starting to melt my number plate.
I'm thinking of making up a metal backing plate for the number plate but am interested in hearing what others have done to combat this problem.
The silencer profile doesn't look like it would lend itself to fitting an extension pipe from the end.
I haven't tried it with the vario panniers fitted yet, but imagine it may also melt the bottom of these.
Any suggestions and ideas gratefully accepted.:thumb2

Had the same issue on my Baghira, put an aluminium plate behind the number plate with a small spacer between the ally plate and number plate to create an air gap.

Thanks Devon, hadn't considered the air gap but now you mention it, makes perfect sense.

Had the same issue on a twin cam gs, but only after an autobahn run
Smaller number plate , no problem

I just put a strip of ductworkers tinfoil tape behind my plate. It does the job nicely.

I have a crud catcher behind and below the number plate that keeps my back clean since I removed the TUV mudguard shovel thingy. The number plate is fine yet the exhaust exits closer than the Remus Hexacone.

This is what happens on a CCM (with a longer legal silencer fitted) when you use a legal sized plate to ride 10 miles to an MOT station, last year I swapped the plates over around the corner

Why not get an angled extension tube to fit over the end of the exhaust, if one would fit. It would then direct the heat away.

My brother’s GSA has done 40K miles with a Remus Hexacone - no number plate damage.

However if the plate was at risk the silencer outlet would look daft with a stub pipe even if one could be fitted.
