Hi all,

I have an issue and was wondering if someone could perhaps guide me on the best thing to do.

The final drive on my R1200GS (2010) is dead. I shipped it off to a specialist company to fix and they have said that they can't refurbish it as it's too far gone.

Once I had sobbed for a moment, I picked myself up and went to Motorworks and thought I would get a refurb one from there. However they only do this on exchange for the old one, which I can't send them because they will just reject it as it's not serviceable.

Oh and they don't have any final drive units in stock so they can't even send me a replacement

So I think I am left with 2 choices:
1) buy a used one off ebay and hope for the best
2) buy a new one from BMW

Anyone got an option 3?

As said first stop Mikeyboy at Overland and Classic Phone 07786340692.
If you buy second hand best to go for a similar Twin cam (2010 to 2012) final drive as they are better than the earlier models as the output bearing is in the oil bath.
You have not said what mileage the bike has done.
On a few of these later final drives the cage broke up holding the balls in the output bearing.
Your crown wheel and pinion must be very bad to make it unserviceable.

I sent the final drive to https://jtc-motorcycle.co.uk/final-drives/ for the reburb but after inspection said it was beyond repair unfortunately. Yes they said the crown wheel was too badly worn.

The bike has done 63k

(Thanks for replying, really appreciate it)

Get it back and send it up to Mikeyboy !!

Then you will know for sure

Otherwise start looking on E bay for a replacement !

Just to close this thread off. I sent it off to a company to get it reconditioned but they said it was too worn.

Ended up buying a replacement on eBay which has been working fine.

Now I have a box of final drive bits which I am loathed to throw away.
