Help I need to waterproof a fog light switch

Hi, I went in to my local car spares and came out with Ring fog lights with built in LED's as they were reduced to £36.

I intend to fit them as directed and this means keeping the 3 button switch but this is not waterproof. I emailed Ring-automotive who confirmed this but could not offer any alternative.

I would like to find a clear plastic that I could wrap it in or heat shrink to enclose it.

Any advice most welcome.

I have copied a picture of the switch from an old thread and it looks very vulnerable to the elements.

If you can take it apart, just pack it with vaseline. If not, spray it full of silicone or chain lube. That should keep the water repelled...

The rest of the switches on your bike arn't water proof, so why does that one need to be?

Trouble is that if the contacts aren't sealed then vaseline or what ever can get on the contacts and cause problems.

Should be ok as the contacts will be fairly well sprung loaded as its for a high power application...

As daft as it sounds condoms are pretty tough, if it stretches over switch gear OK should last.

Used by desert soldiers to prevent crap getting in gun barrels, and when our dog had a bandaged leg vet said to use a condom to cover bandage when letting dog out to do his business. It worked very well.

trailtech do a three position switch if you have some other things you want to be able to switch.

Mr Wassall of this parish supplies HID lighting with a light switch which is most definitely not waterproof but its been through 5 foul winters and no problems. There's barely any current going through it as it is operating the lights via a relay. I really wouldn't bother sourcing a waterproof one.

You should give these Auto switch from NN a try. I did and absolutely love them. It eliminates the need for any extra switches as I can now switch on/off my fogs by holding down the original hi/lo beam switch for 3 seconds to activate/switch off my fogs!

Make sure that the feed is suitably fused or protected by the Canbus and just use it. If there are gaping holes that look like recipe for disaster fill them with clear silicone sealer. Unless it's a drain hole

had one of these on my 1150 GS for 5 years and had no problems what so ever mounted behind the keys the protection from the screen it was great had front fogs wired to one switch and rear fogs to other
