I get this error about every other time I switch my 2610 (4.30, V7 maps) on. The manual says "Error with data on CF card. Try reloading the maps", I'm not too confident since it does not happen every time, and the word "Try" does not exactly boost my confidence! Ejecting and reinstalling the CF card sometimes helps, but not always. Other times it works happily half a dozen times in a row.

I won't be reloading until tomorrow (faster computer for the 1GB card, my current computer will take about 3 hours to index and down load), so any tips before I try re doing my 1GB Sandisk card?

Reckon my CF card may be duff? Dodgy download? Too much cheese?

HELP!

Mark,

just load a single map on to the card - this will overwrite everything on it anyway and won't take 3 hours. Then see if it comes up with the same error message.

If it doesn't, it suggests there was a slight corruption in your original load and that a full reload will probably cure it.

If the error message persists, then try another card.

If that cures it, it'll probably be your card, if not, it may be your unit at fault.

I had the same message when trying to send a mapset to my Quest a while back...turned out it wasn't the quest at fault but my installation of the maps and/or mapsource.

Garmin had me reload the maps on the PC, which worked.....there is a thread here about it somewhere but try that first.

Thanks for the ideas guys - I'll reload Mapsource & the maps on the PC tonight, then wipe the card with a single map, then reload the lot.

Actually I was "kind of" hoping it was my 1GB CF card, then I could have an excuse to go and get a 2GB card and just put the lot on :)

thanks again.

Update

FYI it looks like it may well be the Sandisk card. Reinstalled Mapsource and the maps on the PC, sent the GPS a single map, then sent the GPS my full set of maps (~985MB) / routes/ waypoints etc seemed OK last night, but this morning the same "Map Storage Error" came up twice when turning the GPSR on.

I've put the originally supplied 256MB card back in and it was OK all the way into work, with quite a few bunps, tuned off & on a few times at the lights etc so if it's stil lOK for the next couple of days I'll put it down to a faulty 1GB card.

Well that's better than the unit beign Daffy Ducked anyway.

Thanks for the advice though.
