Hi,

Compleatly standard, no alarms or anything? I did notice that at first, it was just making a very slight noice which gradually builds to full on blast? Once its achieved its full on status its there it stays. As soon as you move the ligth switch to the 1st click of teh light switch its on!

Not sure if this is connected (no pun intended) or not, but the starter motor clicked a few times this morning without turning the engine over. Then it turned over as normal and started fine?

Is it possible, as Antti says, its bad earth somewhere?

I'm a bit worried about using it now in case it catches fire. Pa, my bike done got lit again.:D

Cheers
Dave
Dave,Hi,try swapping the relay to the left of it with one of the other ones on the right side of the relay box. This is the load shed relay which switches off all consumbles when starting the bike. I assume that you have checked the obvious such as battery connections ? When the horn activates itself do the head lights still work or do they go off as well. reason i ask is that the relay uses the starter motor windings as an earth so if the starter is dodgey fault could probably lie there.have you tried bypassing the earth wire on the horn and running an independant earth wire off the horn ?

Had a quick look today, it's something to do with the rear/side light feed ?

remove fuse no 2 and the interference causing the horn to operate disappears - and the horn operates normally .

Hi Mate,

EUREKA!!! I swapped the horn relay with the load shed relay as you said and all appears to be well again!! I have got the horn again!:D The bike starts and the lights and horn all seem to be working ok! I cant go for a ride until tomorrow, but initially it seems ok!! I'll report back tomorrow!
Many thanks.
Dave

Fantastic, i've learnt something, never encountered a stuck on horn before - Thanks skywalker

Well, I drove the 30 odd miles to work today and all is well. Looks like the problem is cured.:) Well done Mr Skywalker. You got a name and address I can send a variety pack of Mr Kiplings et al's finest to?:)

S'funny, I rarely, if ever, use a horn. Normally I'm too busy hauling the brakes on to worry about it. but since it hasn't been available to use I have needed it 51326 times. :P

Many thanks to all for the suggestions/advice

Best,
Dave

Arrrggghhh, its doing it again!

Damn thing has started doing it again this morning? Strangely my ABS lights didin't go out either? I rode to work with the ABS lights flashing and about 5 miles into my journey the horn "beeped" for a second or two of its own accord. then it did it again and then it stayed on! Agaain as soon as I turn teh lights off, the horn goes off. With the lights off the horn works as normal?

Is there anything that links the horn to the ABS circuit? Although, I turned the ignition off and restarted the bike after 10 miles and the ABS lights then went off as normal. But the horn problem still exists?

Ho hum.:( Any ideas on whats causing this?

A chafed wire in the lighting circuit feeding power into another chafed wire in the horn circuit? Presumably after the relay, as removing the horn relay had no effect.

I'm not so sure. Why the delay and then once its happened it never stops until the relay is replaced?
Last night when it happened I tried pressing the horn, which got louder when I did. Then it went off, albeit to return shortly afterwards and then it stuck on permanently. So I thought a look inside the switchgear might be prudent. Although a quick look tells me they don’t come apart like conventional stuff.
A quick look at a wiring diagram shows that the load relief relay interrupts and is on the same circuit as the light switch, the dip/main beam switch and the horn and the F4 fuse (auxiliary power). But I can’t for the life of me understand what could send a feed back down the circuit to the horn? I could accept one relay going bad, but another one doing the same shortly after? No, it has to be a bleed back down the circuit, which to my pea sized brain says bad earth.
The horn and both switchgears are on the same common earth circuit. The load relief really interrupts both of the switchgears. So it looks like this is where it’s feeding back down from? If anyone is even still reading this, would you say the fault probably lies in the switchgear earths?

How did you sort this problem? Mines started parping of its own accord this morning. Only did it a couple of times then was fine.
