Hi Guys

After a number of tarmac "drops" and inspection for what was making an irratating buzzing noise I have noticed that my engine bars are... well knackered.

I have removed the lower sections and found the bottom left bracket split, but have also noticed the top right hand bracket also split. Unfortunaly to remove these I need a long allan key as it's bolted from inside the tube, and I don't have anything long or thin enough.

Anyone help, I'm in Didcot.

Next to decided on a replacement, don't like these bars they seam to be useless, I have lost both head covers now to.

You don't need a long allen key. You need a long extension bar. :augie

I have an extension bar for a socket set I have but the socket and bar are to wide to fit down the tube. :(

For inserting an allen socket all the way down the crashbar tube.
I don't think so. :D

must be talking about different sort of crash bars because I took mine off a few months ago using the allen key and one of the extension bits in my toolkit:augie

Oh really - ADV crashbars, R/H side. You'll need an extension bar about a foot long to insert down the tube with an allen socket attached to the end. Unlike anything i've ever seen in a standard onboard bmw toolkit

Definatly don't have anything that long in my tool kit...

I checked...mine wasn't bolted on and it was the left hand side I was thinking about. The bar just slipped onto this bolt whilst it was bolted under the tank to the frame. Is this the bolt in question?

read the posters original question.
Pointless me keeping on posting the same old reply. I'll leave you to it.

You might be better off apologising to people who could be misled :D

Ok. Allow me to be the first to say that I still 'don't get' this thread and all information I've supplied is irrelevant:rob

In the interests of offering help instead of misleading information, can I suggest a hacksaw:D

Thats the ones i have, 2004 GS ADV BMW crash bars. Dont need a long ext to take them off, r/h bar is held on by the lower bar. This is removed by just removing the bottom section and top fixing under the tank at the front.

l/h one, bolt is exposed & can be undone using the toolkit allen key, although a socket is easier!!

Bottom line, if they are BMW ones, you need to remove the tank.
