Guys - I have picked up a second hand Large TT Sump guard for my XChallenge from Ebay in Germany and I am a bit confused by the bits sent with it. I have checked the TT instructions online and I seem to have everything I need plus some extra brackets:nenau

Can anyone who has fitted one from new tell me if they are needed or if the seller made a mistake - see picture:

Anyone want to buy some really expensive Touratech brackets?:D

~Seriously - If anyone recognizes what they are for let me know. I did a quick scan around the bike but could not see anything similar.

The 2 brackets and 2 smaller, thinner spacers are for the Perspex BMW light guard (made by TT) and nothing to do with the TT sumpguard:blast

Put them to one side and count them as a bonus :D

Now the 2 longer 'button head' allen bolts and two of the metal spacers attach at the front of the frame (near the manifold)

The 2 normal allen bolts attach at the rear (near the suspension linkage) and don't have spacers normally.

However the previous owner may have fitted these longer bolts and spacers (the TT ones are shorter for the rear mount) because the sump plug protrudes and he may have fitted this arrangement to stop this happening and for that...............it is a good idea

So I would fit spacers on all 4 bolts...................you may lose a bit of ground clearance, but at least you won't rip off your sump plug:thumb:eek:

One word of warning .......................you may have to slacken (very slightly) the oil return pipe banjo (near the rear shock and rear of engine) and reposition it to allow the TT sumpguard to align properly..........I had to

Here's a link for fitting correctly

Lexan and cut it with a dremmel/jigsaw (with a blade with most teeth you can find)

David, I have a X-country and wondered if you still wanted your original sump guard? I am told they are a straight swap.
for some reason BMW put bit of recycled plastic on mine!
Thanks Neil

Hi Neil - I will be keeping the original, sorry.

Try posting an ad in the wanted section, others might want to sell theirs.

Good luck.
