Sadly I am on dial up here in France and no opportunity to get anywhere and use a broadband connection. I have attempted to download it myself but it reports it will take 344 hours I lost connection after only 2 hours and a few mins. I asked my old man to have a go and download it but Garmin insist you have the device attaced to the computer, even though it saves the file to your computer.

Big ask... has anyone already downloaded the Mapsource file garmin_rmu_current2010_30b.exe ? Would anyone who has copy it to a Cd/DVD I think it is 4Gb in size and post it to me Please :D I would of course cover the costs.

Appreciated

but Garmin insist you have the device attaced to the computer, even though it saves the file to your computer.

Wherein lies your problem, does it not?

When you download the file from Garmin (takes about 90 min's on a good broadband connection) it will not start the downloading procedure unless the end recipient device is connected. I can only assume that it links the download to a specific device somehow. :nenau

If I am right, then the disc will be zip use, as it will be 'keyed' to another unit, not yours.

Why not, instead of someone sending you a zip all use disc, send your device to the nice bods at Garmin and ask them to do it. Or, to a nice bod on UKGSer and ask them...... Of course the bod (or you) will have to pay Garmin for the download, but there you go....

oh the doubt...

I don't think it works like that.

I believe the download is a generic file (like the DVD you buy when you first buy the product) the part which ties it to your device is the combination of a product code, Unit ID, which produces a one off unlock code. I don't think they have the resources to recompile the code (4Gb would take some time and bandwidth) for every individual who is entitled to download the upgrade.

Thats why I believe the unit needs to be connected so it can create a unique product code tied to the unitID.

Of course I could be wrong (I have been before several times come to think of it) anyone techies out there who know for sure? Anyone prepared to send me a copy of the exe file so I can see for sure.

I don't really want to send my 660 back to garmin I would be lost without it ;)

I know Garmin support is excellent, I don't want to change the maps on the device at all just the mapsource application as it crashes evertime I use it and fails to load the maps correctly, I am hoping this is one of the fixes.

garmin_rmu_cneunt2010_30b

Is that the same as your: garmin_rmu_current2010_30b.exe

If so, do I just drag it from my recycle bin, onto a cd and post it to you?

Anything much beyond that is moving into the realms of computer gobbblygook in my world.

If that is all, PM me your name and address and it's yours.

Thank you wapping
that is likely to be the file the download location for me was http://downloads.garmin.com/akdlm/garmin_rmu_cneunt2010_30b.exe so it looks like the file. check to see if it is 3 to 4 Gb or more.

You may need to recover the file to your desktop or some other suitable location on your PC before dragging it to a DVD, I think it is too big for a CD. I will PM my address. :)

Thank you Wapping for the file on DVD, for those who would like to know how it went, It went really well I connected the Zumo660 to the computer logged in to Garmin, and double clicked on the file Wapping sent and it all went exceptionally well if not a little slow but all installed and functioning propperly, I was not asked for any information from Garmin... Took approx 2.5 hours all in all.
