Help - oil leak

Hi, any thoughts on this on.

Had my 1150Gs 2 years with no issues, ride it in all weathers and all conditions. So far no problems ( hope thats not a jinx!)

Suddenly it has developed a slow oil leak ( not masssive but a consistant drip), On closer inspection this appears to be comming from the large bolt (drain) on the base of the engine gear selector side. Tightening this up has slowed the flow but I have ordered a new seal and bolt hopefully to solve the problem.

Any one else had this issue or can offer advice?

Not that unusual.

No need to replace the bolt, just new copper washers.

I had the same problem on my 1150. Just replace the washer. Be careful if you tighten it any more as the dodgy washer could give up and a fair bit of oil will start flowing - it happened me.

Washers are only a couple of pence from the local BMW dealer. I can send you one over if you PM me your address but the post will take at least a week from Ireland (and of course if I can find them in the shed).

Part number could be "07119963252 - GASKET RING (A16X20)"

Number 11 on the image below.

I had the same problem. Brass crush washer solved the issue.

Wash the bike down there and let it run for a minute or two. It could leak from the pressure bulb switch I had mine replaced with a new car one for less than 2 eur

why don't you share with us what brand and p/n is the aftermarket one you found?

I seem to be the next tosser due this fault.

Timely as I'm due a service so tomorrow I'll go fetch some oil and filter and washers which will hopefully be in stock at my local dealer.

Around 60,000 miles on the clock. Does this tally with anybody else?

for the benefit of other tossers:

the fix for this is 2x sump washers which compress.

As your likely to drop the oil you will need a 3rd of the same washers for the sump plug and a filter no doubt too if your going to replace the oil.

Didnt take long but was messy due to the position of the oil return and the center stand meaning some old towels were required to keep my floor from going black.

No leaks now.

I think its due to some paint over the components, it came off in my hand as I was removing the washers with no pressure and annoyingly found its way inside the banjo, took me 5 mins to fish the bugger back out.
