30 miles into this mornings commute, the Oil warning came on.

I stopped as soon as I could, and killed the engine.
The Oil level is spot on (bike was serviced 400 miles ago)

So, I started it again and hey-presto - no light.

I've just ridden the last few miles to work much slower, but I'm a bit concerned

Any Ideas ???

Was it really wet? Damp electrics possibly?

Just a hopeful/helpfull guess.

Mechanically illeterate I'm afraid :(

Animal,

Ihad a similar thing wiv mi 1150, spoke the emergency breakdown lads, who said that they had never heard of a boxer engine loosing oil pressure without an external leak.... they said it was probably the pressure switch.

took the bike to the dealer, switch changed in 'bout 10mins, but they did say that it may be wise to give the switch a quick spray of wd40 after riding in heavy rain. [the switch is just behind the sight glass and is basically just a one wire connection onto something goinginto the engine]

OIL LIGHT

Dont panick its the oil pressure switch when it get very wet it shorts out and the light comes on, give it a good spray with WD40 AND GET IT CHANGED AT THE NEXT SERVICE. It also happened on my previous BMW a k1200rs, changed switch no further problems.......:beerjug:

I don't know if it's the same oil pressure switch, but it's a known problem on the 650GS. I've had mine replaced once.

Good luck........

Thanks Guys.

Yes, it was pissing down, and Yes, i did ride through a flood which was fairly deep.

Just got off the phone from my Dealers... they're gonna change the oil pressure switch at lunchtime.
