I'm having a bit of trouble opening a self extracting zip file.

It is a file on a cd and when trying to open it, it asks for a destination.

I have typed c:/desktop but it doesn't appear there. I tried again and the message asking if I want to replace the opened file pops up.

It is obviously opened and hiding somewhere but I am not sure where.

What should I type in as the destination address if I want to put it on the desktop? Failing that where would it be hiding on the pc.

I am running windows 10

Cheers for any help

you need to use a backslash (\) with Windows path commands.
Also, I think the path to your desktop is C:\Users\user\desktop or something similar.
Have a look at the properties of a file on your desktop and check the path.
I'm not at my computer so can't check for you, I'm afraid.

You haven't given it a proper path to extract to as per AberdeenAngus. The second user will be the name of the account your logged on as. If you have to type a destination I am thinking this is a very old file

Could also be because it's on a cd-rom. You could also just copy the self extracting file to a folder on your hard drive and double click on it.

install 7zip then after instalation go to file on cd right click then go to open with, and point it to 7zip then 7 zip will let you browse for a location to save it, one small point if you do not have the relative software instaled to view the file it will show as an unrecognised file icon.

I'll give these ideas a try tonight.

The file is a self extracting file on a cd rom. It is of an x Ray and has only recently been made.
