Help please, child's first computer

Last time i looked HE was still a boy :D and is only 7 so was more worried about accidental pop ups and HIM deleting Op system

I have gone the administrator route and Microsoft has its own adult web filter

Have to agree with Fanum its a fine line between over monitoring and trust but at 7 don't think i need to worry at the moment.

the microsoft family seting allow you view all there browsing  if thats your bag :nenau

any more suggestions for free virus soft ware?
I've used either Avast or AVG over the years though as mentioned previously, MS Security Essentials or whatever it's called seems well thought of.
As for all the other stuff, I side wholeheartedly with Fanum. Luckily when our lads were that sort of age they were outside feckin around in the mud or building tree houses etc... the days before all this (anti)social media stuff so I realise things are quite different now. I'm sure your lad will be fine - get him a Yamaha PW50... much better than a computer :thumb2:thumb2

What has walking to school got to do with it, and who mentioned bleeding bricklaying?

Sorry, last time we met you I thought you said you had a City & Guilds in Bricklaying. Sorry if I got that wrong.

Walking to school is like learning to ride a bike. Or use a computer. Children need to learn how to do these. And they learn best by learning whilst being supervised by their parents. ie You ride bike, and I will be here to pick you up when you fall/ make sure you dont fall in the road and get run over/ help you with the gears, fix the chain when it falls off etc etc.

Like walking to school. Best learnt under supervision, yes you must look left and right, yest you must listen, but I will be there to make sure you dont die if you make a mistake.

Oh, but feel free to have a computer. Put it in your room, surf porn sites, play online games all night, get groomed in chat rooms by paedophiles for weeks on end. But dont worry. 'Cause I am a 'trusting parent'. ie I dont give a shit. And I 'trust' you (at 6 or 7 or 8 years old) to be able to navigate such situations unminded.

Get it now? Only you don't. Because you live in online forums and dont have any experience of actually bringing up kids. (I dont know that of course, it's just a guess).

Although given the stories in the press today about primary school kids 'trusted with keys/computers/TV's of their own etc who are falling asleep in class before lunchtime because their parents 'trust' them to put themselves to bed at a reasonable time. So maybe you do have kids afterall.

I think you will find he does have kids. And home schools them (I think)
Now he's ether on speed pills or the kids do raise them selves as I don't have the energy to play on forums In the wee hours then closely supervise kids by day. I'm sure we will get a long smug and all knowing reply when were all in bed.
