Help Please: Garmin De-Registration?

Hoping some of you techies on the board will be able to help!

In the process of buying a 5 month old Garmin 2610. Seller will be passing on all relevant Unlock codes. He tells me the unit has been registered with Garmin in his name.

My question:

Is this going to cause me any problems down the line?
If Yes, is it feasible/possible for him to de-register the unit, so that I can then register it in my name?

It is quite simple I have just sold a Streetpilot 111 on E Bay

1. Get the seller to notify Garmin of the new owners details (you)
2. Log onto Garmin, set up account under 'My Garmin' and then register the unit in your name.
3. You can now purchase any upgrades to maps etc
4. If anything does not work ring them, there helpline is very good, but the bottom line is unless the seller notifies the change of ownership you are unable to register it.

Thanks for that. Numpty question perhaps, how does the seller contact Garmin .... via their website, by post, email? Silly question perhaps but I want to be in a position to explain to the seller exactly what & how he has to do.

They should be able to do it through their 'My Garmin Account' on internet from the garmin web site, or they can do it via telephone again the number can be found on the web site. I did it via web site no problems

i had the same problem a couple of years ago with a second hand streetpilot.
solution was to contact Garmin and explain problem. then get the seller to confirm that he had sold item to me via e mail. Garmin confirmed back to me by e mail that ownership had being transfered and all Ok.

its a bit of a long process but at least you know that garmin are keeping track of the owners deatils.

Yep I*ve the same problem with an SPIII
I changed the e mail address but for the life of me cannot see how to Re register the device.
Not all of us are 'Computer literate'
for now it works but its not in my name so I can't upgrade it
( Its on V8 mapping at the moment)

I think that when I sold a garmin V, I went into my garmin account, found the owner details and changed them to the new owners details. Sorted

RE REGISTRATION Garmin SPIII

Nah, that didn't work so I phoned the freephone Europe number, spoke to a very nice young lady ( Rebecca) and by return of e mail the registration was complete.
