Help R1100 '98 won't start after replacing throttle cables.

Today I replaced the throttle cables on a R1100. The bike had not been run since last Tuesday. After we set the cables lengths as best we could without synchronising it we attempted to start the beast.

The beastly thing fires and tries to run much like an old car with the tuning out. It fires on both cylinders and whilst the starter is cranked it almost runs - but not enough to run without the starter assisting. We have checked for a good spark, checked for fuel at the injectors, changed the plugs. Nothing makes any difference.

What is especially frustrating is that it so nearly starts. The synchronisation must be out, however we have had an RS start from cold and run fine on just one cylinder, so why won't this one run when both cylinders are firing?

Any bright ideas on the forum as to things we might have missed, things to try ETC.....

Thanks

Chris

How far out do you suspect the throttles are?

When I was playing with the synch on my 1150 - I managed to get the same thing. I had to go back to basics and check that the throttles were pretty close again before it would catch and run.

it 'should' start with no throttle cables even fitted. - ie start and idle.

I'd guess they are too far open - give them more slack - or check the cable has seated correctly at/near the bodies.
