Got a Remus exhaust system fitted to my bike. I urgently require an exhaust extension pipe for an upcoming trip. However to place an order I need to know which exhaust system I have fitted. It's either a Remus Grand Prix or a Revolution. Straight through - no baffle and no bolt hole for a removable baffle. Made of Titanium. Thoughts appreciated.

Looks like this......

It looks like a Revolution but logically if there's no provision for a dB killer, then it's a Grand Prix.

Thanks - are you 100% certain that all Revolution can's have the pre-drilled hole for the baffle?! I need to place a special order for the extension pipe so need to get it right!

Thanks:thumb

As far as I know, Revolution has always been the nomenclature that Remus have used for road-legal exhaust cans which would mean that they had a baffle fitted. I can't guarantee that they've always had the baffle held in by the rivet in the bottom of the tailpipe but it would seem likely. :nenau

I have had both end cans. Yours is the Grand Prix. I currently have a titanium revolution fitted, and as said it has 'revolution' on the badge. My Grand Prix had 'titanium' like yours. Hope that helps.
I also found the GP Can to make the bike feel quite a bit more 'frisky' as well :)

Want me to get my measuring stick out? :D

PS that was just a bend of stainless pipe......54MM OD IIRC....I had to 'adjust' it slightly with a technical impact device to make the end oval, but it worked well :)

I later took it off and went back to cat and stubby, so I still have it sitting in a box here

That's interesting. Couple of questions:

Is that a Grand Prix end can?
Have you tried it with system cases?

If yes to both of the above, would you like to sell it to me rather than storing it in a box?:)

If not, I'll place an order for the genuine Remus part tomorrow morning.

I really hope this works - it's going to be very annoying to go through all this hassle only to cremate another system pannier:blast:rolleyes:

Jeeez this is turning in to a nightmare. I spoke to a very helpful chap from MW today. The extension pipe for the Grand Prix end can is not available due to the product being discontinued some 10 years ago. MW are going to email Remus and see if they can place a special order but seeing as we leave for a long trip 2 weeks on Friday I doubt very much whether it will arrive on time.

Grrrrrrr. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions please?! I'm not sure if Fanum's link pipe above will work with the system panniers as there's nowhere to mount it to. What I really need is the proper Remus part?! Help?!!!............

I thought the outlet size an shape was the same between the 2 silencer types, so either part will fit either silencer????

Not according to the bloke from MW that I spoke with. Either way both parts are on special order only and may take some time to arrive. I'm either going to need to find a second hand one, borrow one or find someone who can make one for me.

I'd take the bike to your local car exhaust place and see if they've got a section (straight or a suitable bend) that'll slip over or inside the current stub. If you can find something, slot it with a hacksaw and hose clamp it (assuming it slips 'over'). It won't be pretty but the pannier will hide it anyway and it'll do the job.

Good advice but the problem I have is working away from home means that I don't have access to the bike during the week and most exhaust places aren't open at weekends! Work doesn't half get in the way of life sometimes:(

I would have thought an exhaust specialist could make something quick after all it is only a micalor clamp with a bit of bent stainless sheet spot welded to it.......?
Have you asked at motorworks? they used to have these extensions advertised on their website......they may have one in stock?

It's Motorworks that I've been speaking to. They've been super helpful but I foolishly assumed that I could just phone them up and order one. As above, the parts are out of stock and at best need to be made to order by Remus - or at worst aren't available at all.

Agree that it looks simple to make but finding someone or somewhere to make one up is proving to be a little tricky.

I honestly don't know.....it's got nothing to help identify it really :nenau

Definitely Remus, pretty sure it's aluminium from the oxidisation, and the only markings on it other than the logo and the oval Remus plaque are on the outlet end....

"RV1" followed by the e-1 classification, then "2039" which I can only guess is a part number of some sort

Never tried it with system cases, I made it specifically to fit behind Vernatech Worldbeaters.

When I did it, I just got a piece of wire, formed it into the exact shape of the inside of the exit pipe, opened up the wire to find the length which is the Inside diameter of the outlet, then got an approppriate bended pipe from Ebay. (about 14 quid I think)

I did have to hammer it a little with a rubber mallet to get the circular pipe to be oval enough to jam up there, then when I'd got it in as far as I wanted to, I just drilled a hole through and pop-rivetted it in place.

The joint is NOT gas tight, but my aim was to direct the flow out from behind the pannier so I wasn't too bothered......it would have been dead easy to use some 'zorst sealant or JB weld to make it totally gas tight though

Unless the remus part is cheap, a semi-bodge like this is dead easy and dead cheap, plus you can be more flexible with where you end up pointing it :thumb2

The looks don't matter to me much because I keep the panniers on all the time, hiding the extension (which I don't think looks too gruesome anyway!)

Do you still have the original silencer you could fit for your trip? If not I'm sure someone on here could help out with a loan/sale of one?
I know there have been people with melted panniers from using the Remus pipes, but my one has been fitted for 30,000 miles and its never melted the plastic system pannier?

Thanks - I can't actually remember if I've still got the OEM can but even if I have, I hated riding with it and certainly wouldn't fancy a longer trip with it fitted. I felt it was very restrictive especially higher up the rev range. In addition, having read up on this a lot, it seems that part of the melting pannier issue is the fitment of a Y piece rather than the end can. I'll keep looking but thanks:thumb

That's the weird thing, I always had a Y-piece as well. I know what you mean about the standard pipe - horrible.

The other alternative is to try these guys: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-MTC-E...15?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a33a7248b
Ignore the item listed, they have a contact number etc on there. Some time ago I wanted a bespoke part for a Kawasaki exhaust, they were quite happy to make it up within a couple of days. Good luck :thumb2
