Havng a bit of a bad day. Went to turn the bike on, allowed it to go through it's full sequence, pulled in clutch, hit the button, lots of clicks and nothing else. Tried again, not even clicks. Turned the bike off, tried sequence again, exactly the same happened, hit teh button and click, click, click.

Whilst it was going through sequence, there was a loudish 'fluttering' noise from the right cylinder area and then the whirr of servos.

Bike has been stood in dry garage for a week, and last time out had a good 21/2 hour run with no problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately i'm in bosnia so no easy access to a dealer. I do have a GPS, autocom wired directly into the battery.

Any ideas?

Bloody battery by the sound of it :(
It seems a common problem if I remember correctly, jump start it and go for a ride to charge the bugger up.
Then buy an Optimate charger and connect to battery:thumb2

Am I able to use a car to jump it and get the frickin thing started? Also, as I'm n the move would a new battery sort the problem? If I can get it started, can nip up to Zagreb and get a new one. Don't fancy being 2500 miles from home and can't start it. Wife will deffo have a dicky fit at that stage!

can't remember but there was a thread on bike and cars and jump starting. Would recommend a trip to the dealer and get them to do a consumption test.

Hope that helps if it does all the diagnostics then you should be able to jumpstart it. if you've not done it before use second gear cover the clutch and find a good size hill or run real fast.

You'll love it....

Yes, you can use a car to jump the bike, no prob.
Had you left anything switched on to drain the batt?
Don't assume you need a new batt without further checks, ie batt conections tight etc.

I've got my autocom, gps lead, optimate lead (for when I'm at home) and leccy vest lead connected direct to the battery. The gps isn't connected to the 2610 whilst it's been parked up so I suppose that would be 'open'? Could that lead to draining the battery?

I have had a bit of a problem with red warning triangles and brake failure warning flashing (still had full servos and brake power) at me a few times recently which stopped after a few runs out on the bike. Couldn't find a reason for it.

The bike was left for about 4 months without charge could that have caused damage to the battery.

Does this sound like a battery gradually getting worse?

Bairn, from what you are saying it does sound to me you could possibly do with a new battery. Batts are a weak feature in 12's and the electrical system likes a strong well charged batt.

As someone said earlier get an Optimate and connect across the batt.

Thanks Harry, guess I'll be off to the dealers for new battery then!

Which Autocom? If I remember they do draw ever so little power but never go to sleep completely - this could be the reason your battery went dead after a week of sitting.

Autocom recommends connecting to a switched lead.

Dave

Ah, and if the battery is but a little weak, presumably the slight draw will just add to my woes. The autocom is quite an old one, 1999/2000ish vintage.

I'll put in line switches on all my accessories when I get home .. and leave the optimate thingy on permanently!
